Have a question?
Hope you feel better.
Hi there. Didn't want to say anything last week, since it was the 4th and all that, but now it's been three weeks since last check-in. May we have an update, please?
We have contractors working on the Monster Folio, the Pathfinder conversion, etc. and we have due dates of July 31st for them. The Player's Guide just needs to be laid out, but the "pieces" are there. In my next update I can get some specifics on the adventure, because I'm not sure if that has already been done or is in the process--but all parts of this are coming together.
Any updates on the other items?
Paul: I believe in the final version there are no gnomes. I'm not sure if it was a rules thing or what, but I can see if i can check into it.
Gary: The link to the final PDFs were sent to backers via email and/or your messages here on Kickstarter. I can send it to you again.
What came out? I never received anything.
Sorry if this has been answered before (searched posts but could not find it) - what happened to the gnome race?
From page 17, "Pick your race from dwarf, elf, gnome, halfling, human, and orc."
I was hoping this would show up in the final version, but it goes right from Elf to Halfling. If the book is set, will it be released in some form?
I know we should be glad that it came out, I am, I just wish the PDF was bookmarked.
Christopher, if you get the wrong cover, I'll trade you. I generally cover my books, so it doesn't matter to me.
OK yes, I'm sure that can be taken care of for you. I'm going to see if there is a way to make a note on your pledge and get that straight for you. Sorry about that--We've been having a ton of mail going back and forth and I think he just hasn't reached it yet. Any more issues and you can email me at firstname.lastname@example.org
Jeremy still hasn't looked into my message/request. All I'm asking for is that my "deluxe" edition simply be downgraded to a standard edition. I prefer the cover of the standard. Not expecting a refund of the difference or anything, I just want to put this whole thing behind me. Can I please have that taken care of?
Christopher--I'll make sure Jeremy knows there's a message for him--thanks.
Outland staff/contractors: please check and respond to my message sent May 16th. Thank you.
Now we're talking.
@Kurt - It seems like it’s on track for delivery, albeit later than we all might like. It’s far from failed.
Still awaiting my full refund for this FAILED KS campaign.
Joe Titos, that's not the way that Kickstarter works.
It has been 39 months since I pledged $100. I want a full refund immediately posted to my account. This is beyond ridiculous.
I can imagine Matt's time is very much in-demand and precious - as I said, his name was what sold me on this project to begin with. It's good to know he's still an active participant and hasn't thrown up his hands in frustration. His insights into this process ought to make for an amazing update, if he can find the time.
You're making a pretty good impression yourself. What other projects are you involved with, Melanie?
Hi Forrest--Matt's been active with the project, he JUST turned in something and just recently did some edits and stuff. His feedback along the process has been great. BUT he is super busy, so....actually, there is something in the works that there will be an announcement about next week in the update! I can see if Matt has time to do an update here, but no promises, because his time is super stretched. Stay tuned!
I don't want to get my hopes up again here. I don't. I had moved the bookmark for this page right next to the one for Tales From The Floating Vagabond 2nd Ed., on the "it would take a miracle to save this project" list.
But is it just me, or does it feel like there's finally a sense of focus being brought to bear here? I'll blame Ms. Meadors for that, any sense of renewed hope for this project is her doing. She's provided fairly concrete updates two weeks consecutively, with actual information on what's going on in them. I'm looking forward to seeing what she reports to us next week.
You know who I'd like to hear from in one of these updates? I'd like to hear what Matt Forbeck has to say about things. I mean, I don't know about the rest of you, but I was sold on this project on the strength of his name more than anything else. I thought this was HIS project, you know? Now I wonder if he turned in his manuscript, and then he waited, and then he became just another helpless spectator. I'd love to hear how this whole journey looked from his perspective. With or without spelling mistakes, his choice. THAT would be a great read.
We'll get something, eventually, I think. I really don't think there's anything malicious happening. I thought it was apathy, but if that were true we wouldn't have a new rep. *shrug*. I don't know, but I'll come by and kick the tires from time to time.
Yes, this campaign has been badly mishandled by the creator almost from the get-go ... a series of downright dumb decisions have caused much of the delay, coupled with, it seems, an incapacity to manage time or work effectively. Adding in other people to the equation doesn't seem, so far, to have made much difference ... though I suspect that it means we might ... *eventually* ... see some product.
But I won't be holding my breath waiting for it to appear.
Pissing in the wind.
I want to holler at this stupid bullshit and have it make sense, but I would only hear my own echos.
Pissing in the wind.
Thirty frickin seven.
That's how many other game related Kickstarter campaigns I have pledged *after* this one that have been delivered. Rpgs, boardgames, dice, etc. One was Vurt, that started 11 months after this one, that also uses the Cypher system. I've had it for a long time, it's beautiful (gorgeous, actually) and well done.
I got burned by Conman Ken Whitman, but at least there has been a lot of entertainment value with that one, especially now that he's been subpeonad.
So here I am, pissing in the wind, entertaining myself with a little mental masturbation, using this space because it's fricking paid for.
I like helping others make their dreams come true, I do. But I despise being taken advantage of. Because this was a money grab and not someone's dream project, other creators who actually have a passion for their creations aren't getting a second look from me, and probably a lot of others. Fool me once, and all that.
So sad this is still not complete and all we are getting is shifted around and excuses!? I have sent an email asking for a refund last week...still no reply!? That speaks volumes to me...this is almost as bad at Palladiums Robotech debacle!
Its projects like these that make me not want to back KS anymore...I hope I can at least get my money back.
Ok so I just went onto the 2nd edition Numenera Kickstarter page and extracted the following text.
“But Numenera Discovery is not a new edition. We will make virtually no changes to the way the game plays mechanically—and none of those changes affect the way NPCs, creatures, or items like cyphers or artifacts work. “
So I think to say that we are getting A “1st edition” product that is out of date may be overcooking the situation.
Don’t get me wrong. I’m as disappointed as everyone else but let’s not make things sound worse than they already are.
Hopefully, this time we are getting someone who can finally get this over the line!
By the time this game comes out the rules system will likely be antiquated. Numenera 2, with updated Cypher System rules, will be out this summer. I’m sure a Cypher System core rulebook update will follow. Meanwhile, we will STILL be waiting for this game to ship.
In all seriousness, I will probably never play this game even when I do get the book because any excitement I had for it is long gone. I’ll likely just put it up for sale (if I ever get it) to recoup some of my losses.
Welcome to the team. You do realize you've stepped into a comical shit show. On January 5th, we were told,
"The good news is that we are literally days away from wrapping up the interior design on S&S. Once that's done, it needs to be reviewed by Matt and Monte Cook Games. Once we get their approval in, we will go to print immediately."
We'll go to print immediately! That was January 5th. It's now April 11th.
No. I don't want a refund. I want to sit here and watch this ridiculousness continue. If you have the time, I'd love for you to post an accounting of the $64,000+ that was donated for this project. Whose pocket did it go into? Some photos of what they bought with OUR money would be helpful!
I wish you well and look forward to the next litany of excuses. I've been nothing but patient, but your update has pushed me over the edge.
Yay, it's almost done! That inspires much more confidence than when I was told that last year! And even more than the year before that! Woot!
Thanks for the update. I am looking forward to future ones. Keep on trucking.
I’ve backed a lot of projects, and some just come in late. The feeling afterwards to all the waiting is dependent on the final product. Please make sure it is 100% before shipping. Please. I would rather get it this late, than a product that is incomplete or lacking.
Okay, so this is number... I lost count... of people assigned to head this project. Maybe this gal will get shiz done! Here's hoping! (Matt, I'm sorry you're associated with this. I know you've published several novels faster than this game has come out!)
For the love of all that is holy, refund us! It is now going beyond three years! Criminal doesn't even begin to describe this.
Too soon, speedknob, too soon. But I'll try.
Yesterday, I received my print book for Changeling: The Dreaming. That was also a kickstarter, it finished funding a year after this project. Things like that tend to make us backers kinda anxious, and the only thing we have to reassure ourselves against the irrational fear that our investment was spent entirely toward bulk orders of Jack Daniels and wacky tabacky are those little love notes from Outland Entertainment we call Updates.
What I'm trying to say is, the longer this goes on, the more important these updates become to us. Please tell us what's happening, even if it doesn't seem like it would be worth our bother. Maybe we'll gain more understanding and appreciation for what you do if you'll just share with us. You'll have our rapt attention, for certain.
Do it again, Forrest - do it again!
Heh... I just re-read the campaign page. The final sentence of the ad copy for the setting just strikes me as ironic, all of a sudden.
Please give us an update. Or a comment about the lack of an update. Or an update that just says "There's no update. We haven't done anything. Since February, we've been on a bit of an extended lunch break."
This has become another Alas Vegas.
What a bunch of fucking crooks.
Oh yeah, update time! You're a week overdue - but who's counting? :D *badumtish*
Obviously not out in February ... maybe March ... or April ... or May ... or June?
An update would be good!
Um, is it time for the next update? I don't mean to apply pressure here, but last month's update did kinda say "I'm hopeful that we'll have this out to print THIS MONTH." and I'd be lying if I didn't admit to getting hyped just a bit here. What's the latest?
Just keep at it, Jeremy et al.
Pretty sure we've all learned from this experience. For now, progress -and communication- is key.
Here's an interesting bit of news: In the amount of time since S&S was *supposed* to be in our hands, another RPG Kickstarter (Talislanta) launched, was funded, and started to fulfill to backers. Oh, and by the way, in that case, the project creator actually died unexpectedly during the campaign.
So what's YOUR excuse for being THREE YEARS LATE?! Three years of missed deadlines and updates that are little more than crappy line drawings.
That's it. I'm done. I want a refund. Please issue it immediately.
