My name is Ryan Cody, I'm a professional comic book artist and podcaster from Arizona. I make my living telling stories, and The Long Way Home is one I've wanted to tell for a long time.
When I was 14 I moved to Okinawa, Japan. This was before the internet, before social media. I was dropped into the deep end with no idea what to expect. Within days I ended making lifelong friends and forming a bond that could only have happened in that unique way, in a place halfway around the world. The Long Way Home will be a documentary that will follow us as we return home together, for the first time in 25 years. It will explore the relationships we have because of that time and that place. It's a personal story but one I think everyone can relate to, going home again.
Alongside the documentary project, I'm also producing a 60 page Manga called The Ronin and the Shisa which is an action adventure story that takes place in a future version of Okinawa.
There are reward tiers for every level of support and I urge you to check them out and see which one suits you best.
*NEW 03/15/19 - Stretch Goal #3! At $6,000 The Ronin and The Shisa manga expands from 60 pages to 75 pages for all digital and physical backers!
*NEW 03/03/19 - Another stretch goal has been added! At $5,000 all backers will have access to behind-the-scenes process videos and posts for both the documentary and the comic.
*NEW 02/24/19 - A new stretch goal has been added! If the campaign reaches $3700 then the cover to The Ronin and The Shisa will be pencilled by DC Comics and Image Comics star artist, Scott Godlewski! Scott is the artist of Copperhead and has worked on Superman, Super-Sons, Batwoman and Batgirl among many other titles! * UNLOCKED!
I'm asking for your help in allowing me to tell this story. All the funds raised will go towards logistics, equipment and post production on The Long Way Home, and printing on The Ronin and The Shisa.
Risks and challenges
The main risk is that if this campaign is not successful the documentary and comic may not be able to be produced. I've been an artist on numerous Kickstarter projects before and have never failed to produce the work.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
