Eric, once a popular Los Angeles musician in the ’60s and ’70s, now is a drug-addled relic grappling with his irrelevance. But, after he snaps on live TV while promoting his greatest hits album, Eric finds himself in the center of what may be a terrifying conspiracy spanning multiple realities.
The Big Lebowski meets Jacob’s Ladder, Eric is a graphic novel about Americana, and the horrific implications found just beneath its pop and artifice.
"To find a wholly original comic is unusual. To find one deeply emotional, doubly so. Eric is the rare thing that is both."
—Michael Green, Logan, Blade Runner 2049, American Gods
"Eric is visionary, suspenseful, funny, scary, beautiful, mind-warping, meaningful…In other words, it’s a Tom Manning book. READ THIS BOOK!"
—Elliott Kalan, Mystery Science Theater 3000, The Daily Show with Jon Stewart, Spider-Man and the X-Men
Since I am the writer, penciller, inker, and letterer of my books, making them is a monastic experience...but the intention in making them is to have them read. So, after starting this book in 2008, it is such a pleasure to finally get this 400 page graphic novel out into the world.
This is my first book since the critically acclaimed graphic novel Runoff, and after shopping it around for about a year, it became clear that to publish Eric the way I had always envisioned it, I would need to self-publish. But to do so I need your help.
"The Big Lebowski by way of Twin Peaks, Tom Manning's Eric is a psychedelic acid trip of Lovecraftian proportions, blending humor, heart, and horror to deliver a uniquely compelling comic book experience."
—Andrew Cosby, Hellboy, Eureka
Along with the book, there are some wonderful rewards thanks to a little (er...a LOT) of help from some talented friends.
Because Eric is a fictional LA-based musician, some very real contemporary LA musicians have recorded songs both from, and inspired by the book. Contribute at any level and receive these three songs which are available exclusively here thanks to these extremely talented and generous musicians.

Risks and challenges
The book has been completed, the printer chosen, and the company helping with the shirt and silkscreen poster chosen. Note that the book, shirt, and poster shown here are mock-ups, and while I will strive to have the final product match the mock-ups, there may be slight differences.
After the campaign ends, backers will receive an email with instructions how to download the three songs of Eric, and rewards will ship with the book. I expect the book to be back from the printers in June, but delays are always possible.
To keep costs down, items will be shipped using economical options over speedy options, so supporters outside the U.S. should expect a longer wait for their packages to arrive. Apologies in advance to supporters outside the U.S. for the high shipping costs, unfortunately the cheapest option for shipping a book this size is still quite expensive.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
