I’ve been writing these songs through out my travels. Parts of them were born in Ireland and then put together in other parts of the world, from a small fishing town in Alaska, to my place in Austin, to the dry air of the American South West. Writing songs is a very slow process for me. Some of them have taken years to write just one verse, others show up like a homeless dog begging to come in. As a musician and writer I have to travel a lot, it’s part of the process, but during these travels I’ve been gifted a lot of stories and images. They seem to find their way into my songs. I feel that this record is part of the process as a writer; the need to give back and the need to share. With this new record I hope to give away these stories and images to others. This is what this record is about. I hope to have you along for the ride. I’m excited to get these new songs recorded.
Making a record is extremely expensive, after studio time, printing CD’s and T-shirts, musician fees, mechanical royalties fees, video production, radio promotion, artwork, mastering, the total comes out to a little more than $9,000. I have a dream to hire a company that will do press promotions but that is another $2,500. I’m sticking with the $9,000 goal. But it’ll be amazing if I could receive enough support and pledges to raise the $11,500 for press promotions.
Risks and challenges
I just started working on these songs in the studio. The studio feels nice and the songs are ringing more than I even expected. Making and recording music can take longer than scheduled though. I'm aiming for a completed record in late July early August, but if any delay happens I will keep everyone posted and I'll work around the clock to get it completed. I'm super thankful for all of you that have grabbed the CD's in the past, or came out to shows, or recorded one of my songs for your own record. It's means a lot to me.
