Let's improve the world from within... from the kitchen.
HYDRAponia started as a project between two friends who wanted to grow fresh vegetables but lacked the time and space to look after a garden.
We love cooking but we missed the real flavor of the vegetables.
We started to work with a clean system that economized the maximum space and water, so we put our knowledge in home automation to work in a hydroponic system, that is to say, with water in place of soil.
Soon we began to see good results and began to be able to avoid going to the supermarket for vegetables so often , and that was when various friends became interested in our system, so we distributed various prototypes to those friends and it was them who encouraged us to share it with the world.
It seemed to us like a product with the potential to change human consumption habits, making people more autonomous and free.
From the beginning we made it clear that we did NOT want another plastic gadget for people’s kitchens and we began to work with designs that adapted themselves to all homes, that allowed people to admire the natural beauty of plants while also functioning as a decorative element.
Simplicity and efficiency were the goal from the beginning. Behind each Hydra there is a complex and powerful device.
One of the biggest challenges was to create lighting that combined efficiency when it comes to providing light necessary for growing, and at the same time brought warmth into people’s homes.
On the other hand, we wanted to be able to adapt ourselves to people’s needs so we created models of different sizes and degrees of autonomy.
HYDRAponia is offering people the possibility of avoiding plastic containers and letting them eat more healthily, without chemicals
Ultimately, we don’t want to avoid the fact that it appears a nice way to contribute to improving our world from within, from the kitchen.

- What really matters to know
How long does the plant take to grow?
50% faster compared to traditional farming methods. You can grow a fresh lettuce within 4-5 weeks compared to 2-3 months. Making it possible to harvest 80-90 lettuce heads each year -every 4 to 5 days one. Our big models grows up 85 grams of crops per week.
How long will plants keep fresh in Hydra?
Hydra allows you to cut the amount of crop you need while leaving the plant to continue producing leaves, so basically you don’t need to seed if you are happy with the plant taste.
What plants can grow in Hydra?
We have tested dozens of plants that we included in our packs and we continue testing new ones. Here some of them:
Do I have to use your net pots and nutrients?
Our nutrients and net pots have been optimized for Hydra, but you can easily try your own. Hydra is an open System, we are not Nespresso.
What about the electricity and water consumption?
Hydra Classic/DIY/Plus uses 1.4L water per week and 18kWh of electricity per month. Half amount in the Mini model.
One of the biggest challenges was to create the Warm Mode for a cozy atmosphere. To do that we emulated the relaxed breath and heartbeat timing with the led lighting fading.
Thanks to Accion contra el hambre for the first award to the project of entrepreneurship with greater technical, economic and financial viability.
In Hydraponia we are really concerned about conserving the environment, that´s why we don't use screws in our designs, our containers are recycled and we reforest more wood than is used in our products. And of course we are against planned obsolescence.
- Hydra Packs and Nutrients
We've chosen the plants that best grow into Hydra and the results obtained have been surprising. We also know how important it is to adapt Hydra to the particular preferences of each person and that's why we have created the HYDRA PACKS:
Our soil is an organic mix that enables free oxygen flow. After two years testing soils we mixed the ones which gave us the best results from the seeding stage to ripening, creating a clean and aerated natural sponge.
It releases minerals according to the soil moisture and temperature, favoring the optimal nutrient levels.
Each pack contains 5 net pots for you to place them in Hydra and see them grow.
MEDICINAL Pack: By the way, did you know that Neanderthal men were already using acetylsalicylic acid? They sealed wounds with white willow bark. Okay, we can't grow a willow in Hydra, but santolina, ruda, dandelion and more grew fast and healthily.
SPICY Pack: We know that spices grow in tropical climates, but now you can also enjoy them fresh even in Greenland. Chilies, spicy basil, habaneros, spicy hyssop...
SALADS Pack: We had almost forgotten how lettuce, arugula, chard, cabbage ... taste when they are fresh and grown without fungicides
Edible FLOWERS Pack: We know that in addition to perfuming and filling the house with colors, some types of flowers are fashionable in haute cuisine and we have included a pack with kalanchoe, gazania, viola, lavender ... so we can also experience their flavors at home.
VEGGIES Pack: Since I’ve been cooking pasta with Hydra veggies I just need a few ingredients to end up licking the plate.
COCKTAILS pack: We are being advised by great bartenders for this pack which allows us to elaborate cocktails with fresh plants. Mint, tarragon, peppermint, orange blossom...
AROMATICS Pack: Whoever opts for this pack can get rid of the air freshener. Thyme, oregano, rosemary, basil...
We have chosen a special formula for our Nutrients to simplify and ensure the healthiest grow of the crop.
Our automation system has been developed to ensure the healthy growth of plants and the maximum possible simplicity.
We are curious guys working into the aeronautical industry and into sound/lighting engineering but also passionate about new technologies and botany.
Many thanks for the support to Ecosia, Fernando from the Polytechnic University, Sara from Sevilla Emprendedora and Bárbara from Kouch.
Riesgos y desafíos
We have an excellent relationship with our suppliers and partners so during the last 2 years we worked to be ready for this moment but If any unexpected situation happens we would be as clear as possible with our backers.Más información sobre el concepto de responsabilidad en Kickstarter
