Thanks for stopping by and for those of you returning, welcome back! This is Catfe's 2nd kickstarter. The first one was in Feb. of this year. An eager and ambitious Catrepreneur Carlos Wong set off on his cat crusade with nary any connections, or marketing.
The first kickstarter didn't take, but fear not because the dream never left. It wasn't the idea that wasn't clicking, it was the approach. We worked on the back end further developing our strategy to make Catfe a reality. We did the leg work, developed friendships and business relations, and started marketing like we were on catnip!
Now Catfe is officially a business supporter of Best Friends Animal Society! We will be selecting their shelter cats to have a happy home in Catfe once it's open, while also adopting them out from the cafe as well. NKLA is one of their affiliates and they are striving to push for a No Kill Los Angeles by the year 2017 and Catfe is going to be pushing for that goal right along with them!
Our mission has expanded with that added support that Catfe has garnered. We seek to really change the way people view adoptions and cat care. As well as our original plan to work closely with the community to help spread this message and create a new wave of pet-conscious parents. We will also be hosting pet therapy nights for orphans and the elderly. Our space is much more than a cat cuddling, coffee chugging free for all, well it is...but with a strong message backing it!
As for the cats that will inhabit the cafe, they will be pampered pussies. Their health and happiness will be on the forefront of our operations. Anything health wise both physically and mentally shall be taken care of. All guests will be prepped before entering Catfe with knowledge and a stop at the hand washing station. These cats may be adopted, but only after a year of staying with us, giving them adequate time to truly shine and bond with our guests.
We will also be having a corner for daily adoptable kittens that will be coming from NKLA and other local shelter.
This is where your taste buds get the royal kitten treatment. We have met with a few local established businesses that will be making exclusive Catfe themed treats for us! As well as our own in house concoctions that we have been developing for you all. Catnip tea anyone? Purrpaya Punch, Pawnapple Colada, Kitten Crush, 9 Lives Latte, The Meowsenberg, oh you best believe that your tongues will never run dry, just like our cat puns!
Here's a snippet of the band Lolita Dark's Kitty Nyan Nyan Jingle! Use it as your daily background theme and get all the fly kitties.
With the initial funding we are ready and set to start fleshing out the physical space and being on our furry way to opening and sustaining ourselves for the first several months. These stretch goals will add a definite perk to our opening!
Risks and challenges
Pet cafes are unique and very new to the states. The first concern was licensing and legality of such an establishment. We figured it was not too far off of the concept of a petting zoo and the likes. We got the green light from the LA Animal Services Department, they directed us to which proper forms would be needed and thought the idea was great!
Next was the LA Public Health Department. The way the cafe is being set up, the food and drinks will not be near the cats at all. They will have their own secluded room to play or relax with their human guests, and also have their own private quarters when they wish relax away from the lime light. Check plus on that! We talked to one of the head officials at the health department and got his OK on the idea!
We have our eyes set on a location in Little Tokyo that will provide the space for the cats and our guests needed to feel comfortable without feeling cramped. We need to secure it first and to get the paperwork started. That will be the first step after funding is completed along with signing all of the legal businesses papers needed.
I want the best for our cats, and the best for our guests, as well as the community around us. We see this not only as a way to make business, but also a way to build a stronger community by working closely with non-profits both for animals and people.
Even if things go awry from unknown sources, we will take it upon ourselves to figure out the best solution and be transparent about it to the public. Other than that, we will put all of our thoughts, effort and emotions to making sure we take the proper steps the first time around while being pliable enough to learn as we go!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
