Best wishes and merry Christmas from Rikard Rykkvin, Sean Lewis and Aksel Rykkvin ***
12 year old Aksel Rykkvin is an exceptional treble soloist who has garnered interest from the classical music world both from his home country Norway and abroad. Visit Aksel's website to hear and read about him.
Aksel has now been given a fantastic opportunity to record a solo CD of baroque arias with one of the world's premiere "period" orchestras, the London-based Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment. The album will be released on the leading independent label Signum Classics. The recording is scheduled for January 2016 in London.
In Aksel's own words:
"I´ve been singing since I was five years old. I was told that the harder I work, the further I will get. It´s never been an issue for me to practise less because I just love singing so much and I´ve been so lucky to have such fantastic teachers and coaches. To receive this invitation from the OAE is beyond any dream I could have ever imagined. To work with this orchestra would be so incredible. I´m busy working on all the music we're planning to record, which is mostly Bach and Händel. I´m crossing all my fingers and toes and hoping for the support we need for us to be able to make this recording. Thank you to everyone who is able to contribute, however little that may be. Every penny (or Norwegian crown!) will help!"
Production costs for making a recording with an orchestra of this high caliber, are significant.
Our total budget is NOK 640.000 (£50.000). NOK 150.000 (£12.000) is already on the table from the producers. We´re counting on grants for a decent chunk, but to make the recording happen we rely on Aksel´s supporters to buy pledges for NOK 250.000 (£20.000) in all.
It´s a lot of money, but we are confident there are enough music lovers out there that would want to help this exceptionally talented boy soprano make this recording.
Please browse our selection of pledge rewards. We hope and believe there´s something for everyone! Since we are working on a tight time schedule, as big a pledge as you can see fit would be very, very much appreciated. Remember that you can pledge almost any amount you want. Heartfelt thanks from team Aksel :)
Here's a preview of the wonderful concert video that we are including in many of the rewards. We hope you like it!
To give you an idea of what music we´ll be recording, here´s a few of the arias:
- Bach - ´Bist du bei mir´ from Geistliche lieder
- Bach - ´Jauchzet Gott in allen Landen´ from Pfingstkantate
- Händel - ´Laschia ch'io pianga´ from Rinaldo
- Händel – ´Let the bright Seraphim´ from Samson
- Vivaldi – ´Domine Deus´ from Gloria
All the repertoire on the CD is among the finest baroque music written (mostly Bach and Händel), and it´s all very well suited to Aksel´s voice. We think it will be a gem of a recording!
Best regards from project creator Rikard Rykkvin - Aksel's father, and manager on a voluntary and completely pleasurable basis :)

Risks and challenges
The stakeholders in this CD project have decades of experience in the classical music recording industry. Please refer to the following websites to get an idea of the massive amount of recording projects they have completed previously:

Signum Classics (record label, contact person Steve Long) | www.signumrecords.com

With such experienced professionals involved we are confident the project will go smoothly. The only risk as we see it - other than a force majeur like a plane strike - is the unlikely but theoretical possibility that Aksel´s voice starts to break before January. There are absolutely no signs of this as yet (one usually hears an extended lower register in the voice as the first sign, and this happens before the higher register starts to drop) so we´re quietly confident. But… should it happen, this is what we´ll do:
a) Many of the rewards we will be able to fulfil anyway, so we will.
b) Rewards that we can't deliver on, we will refund all pledges of NOK200 and above. (For practical reasons, we are unable to refund smaller pledges).Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
