WUMBA 2.0 - Magnetic Wooden Toys Featuring Switchable Blocks
15 adorable characters, each consisting of 3 magnetic wooden blocks = multiple fun assembly solutions & endless play combinations.
This project will only be funded if it reaches its goal by Fri, April 5 2019 4:00 PM UTC +00:00.
We are back on Kickstarter, where we started. Almost a year ago you, our Backers, supported our idea of magnetic wooden toys with switchable blocks and helped us to launch WUMBA Toys.
We do believe that children's toys can be interesting, playful and safe. We do also believe that wooden toys can be awesome and enjoyed by all ages. We took our passion for wood and enthusiasm for toys and made a big fat sandwich of engineering, manufacturing logistics, contemporary design, parenting experience and some sense of humor. The resulting blend gave simple and durable magnetic wooden toys that can literally boost kids' imagination due to the limitless mix & match combinations. The Kickstarter campaign we launched to give birth to our invention went on to prove that many people also liked toys consisting of 3 magnetic wooden blocks each, that have the same radius and smart magnet polarity, making them interchangeable and playing with them endless.
Who knew - but we were happy to see a lot of appreciation from more that 40 countries across the world.
The success of the campaign kicked our start-up into high gear. We carefully selected the wood, magnets and twice carefully selected the lacquers. And we launched our small but real factory. The rest was history. Numerous late nights later, the last WUMBA set was sent to our backers.
And now we are ready with the follow-up. And as before, without your help none of these new designs will come to life, at least not in the near future. We’ve learned a ton of lessons since our last campaign, improved out production and logistics and we’re keen to put all this experience to work.
We have a whole lot of excitement lined up: no less than 11 new completely distinct Characters! It’s ambitious, but we’ve been thinking hard about creating a WUMBA Universe, so this time will be about adding new creatures.
The last campaign proved that having only 5 animals might be not enough because many people preferred Big WUMBA Boxes with 10 different animals inside. And we wanted to try something fresh and different. We checked and studied dozens of ideas. Finally, we came up with 2 new collections - Cute Dinosaurs and Lovely Monsters. Furthermore, the original WUMBA Squad will also be significantly upgraded. But let's move on step-by-step and meet all of them.
This is an Elephant. WUMBA Elephant stands, eats grass, pours water on its back, runs, runs fast, and sometimes even flies and it is purple.
This is a Crocodile. It has multiple action poses, 2 emotions and a special gliding feature.
This is a Zebra. It drinks, it runs, it looks forward and backward, it bows and even has 9 stripes and a blue tail.
This is a Lion. WUMBA Lion likes performing real circus stunts, doing yoga. It is beautiful and cute. It also has a unique nodding feature.
This is a Moose. WUMBA Moose likes doing work-out and likes standing on its horns.
Just have a look who can come up if you dare to mix them.
This is a Parasaurolophus but we call him Parry. It likes playing with the tail and has the stripes like WUMBA Zebra.
This is a T-Rex. It is the only one green dino which can make the top twisted table pose.
This is a Chungkingosaurus aka Chucky. Its mountain-high and likes staring and the blue sky. Most probably because it is also blue.
This is a Triceratops Tracy. She is cute, pink and enjoys yoga like a WUMBA Lion.
This is a Brachiosaurus and his name is Brachio. It is as flexible and stretchable as only WUMBA Crocodile can be.
But look how many dinosaurs one can make mixing them.
This is a Troll. The cutest monster ever and it likes sunbathing.
This is a Pudding Monster. It snuggles up, fawns like a cat and it has many spots.
This is an Aquamonster. Obviously it likes swimming. And it is always smiling.
This is a Mighty Multieye. It has at least 5 eyes. And It is always starring at you.
This is a Vampire. It has only 1 eye but has 2 wings. The WUMBA Vampire likes dancing and it is vegan.
Mixing monsters is a kind of threatening fun.
Consisting of 3 wooden blocks, each character can be assembled in multiple ways. But there’s more! Although each character has a different shape, they all have the same radius and smart magnet polarity, making the blocks interchangeable. With this feature, there is virtually no limit to the number of mix and match combinations.
In short, kids can build as many wooden toy creatures as they want! The fun never ends!
Early Learning Pattern.
These toys are for small kids (1 yrs. +). The idea is a 3D version of popular early mix-and-match books. We took Montessori and Waldorf guidelines and brought them to life through wood and magnets. With our idea of the magnetic construction toys, kids can re-create the forms offered or come up with new forms.
Specially developed shapes, prints, colors, and magnets allow children to build and create in ways they can't with standard building blocks!
Not only is it fun to see what kids come up with, but parents can also rest assured that these magnetic wooden toys with their smooth edges are completely safe.
Made of natural solid beech wood from Carpathians, WUMBA uses lead-free magnets and water-based paints. It is also impossible to see, touch or extract the magnets, so there is no danger of a child swallowing them.
We have chosen beech wood as a perfect solution for our toys. It is oak-strong; therefore, each block is long-lasting. Also, beech wood has antiseptic properties. It is easy to work with and leaves fewer hooks and chips, so children can’t get hurt. An extra bonus of using beech wood is that it has a beautiful texture: the annual layers are well distinguished, so it looks amazing after polishing.
Beech trees regrow fast and we use only FSC certified wood meaning our toys are sustainable.
The blocks are painted with water-based lacquers. It is 100% eco-friendly, as it’s based on acrylate, which dissolves in water and contains no toxic paint chemicals (lead-free). This covering allows the wood to adapt to the humidity of the environment, which increases the product’s lifespan. Blocks covered with such lacquers don’t lose their color after being exposed to sunlight for a long time. Our blocks contain no flammable substances and are therefore fireproof.
Furthermore, it doesn’t totally overlay the wooden texture. So the result looks colorful but still natural.
To connect the blocks, we use strong Neodymium magnets. They have the longest lifespan, losing only 1% of their strength in 100 years. The magnets are small, light-weight and lead-free. We use 7x7 mm cylindrical magnets with an axial magnetic field. Our magnets have a bonding force of 1.5 kg.
Most importantly, they are implanted and securely sealed inside the wood.
We take safety very seriously, and we use independent consumer labs to make sure that everything is safe and certified before we ship it out to you. The final product will be CE-marked and compliant with the European Standard for Toys covered by EN-71 and REACH, as well as the equivalent US standards covered by ASTM F963 and CPSIA.
As such, we provide you with a lifetime warranty for our products, and we will replace any broken block free of charge including shipping. You will, however, have to send us the photo of the broken block to make sure it wasn’t misused. By the way, not a single replacement was claimed yet!
We are confident in our quality and can guarantee you everlasting, enjoyable play with WUMBA.
Essentially all of the above, broken down on the right, and further explained below. If you still have questions, don't hesitate to contact us. We will be shipping all rewards from Ukraine with priority air mail. All shipments will have the tracking and all shipping cost are included to the pledges. As such, the parcels should be customs-friendly for all EU, UK and US backers. However, customs fees or local sales taxes may rarely apply. Feel free to let us know if you have any specific requirements or need certain adjustments to the shipping documents.
With 1st WUMBA campaign we have funded on Kickstarter, we have kept backers informed of all the problems, issues, and - of course - good news as we get the toys manufactured and sent to your door. This project will be no different. We aim for an update once a week during a campaign, and once every 2-3 weeks after the campaign is over.
So here it is, this is our new lineup. We’ve spent the last 6 months working to develop sales, improving production and designing new toys. And we promise to keep going if you want us to.
If you believe in what we’re doing here, please lend a hand to turn these into reality and keep us moving forward – help fund this project.
From all of us here at WUMBA toys, we thank you!
Risks and challenges
Having successfully completed fulfillment for our previous campaign, we've learned quite a few things. We faced two bottlenecks - painting & printing and fulfillment logistics - and we took steps to address both.
On the production side, the flow is now well established:
- we improved the painting technology for faster and more efficient painting;
- we changed the supplier of the lacquers for brighter and rich colors;
- we changed the printing technology and use silk-screen printing instead of tampo-printing;
The fulfillment is fully buttoned up now as well. Global shipping has a way of delivering surprises, from airport strikes to customs delays. Furthermore, the rewards after the last campaign were shipped too close to Chrismas and some of them stuck in the "postal jams". However, we had a chance to experience different couriers. Thus we know which will work better for us this time. Least of our worries.
That being said, creating a toy is always a challenge – you must make it safe, you should make it playful and you'd better make it nice and attractive. While absolutely nothing is 100% foolproof in this world and even pigs can fly (with the proper gear, of course) we feel pretty confident that everything will be successfully managed and handled professionally.
Nevrtheless, we will keep you posted on every update and you can contact us at any time here and at email@example.com.
