Hello Kickstarter! I am excited to finally get to show everyone the fruits of countless late nights honing and refining a whole line of products! While the name and focus of this project is on our new flagship backpack, the machines and tools needed to make that product efficiently and durably will only serve to improve every product we make.
A few years ago, when I couldn't find a dog coat durable enough for our rowdy boxer Ruby I began making jackets for her. Having over five years of experience working hands-on in the textile and design industry I was confident that I could create something a lot tougher, more waterproof and also always stay attached during wild thrashing. The resulting 'Action Jacket' became the foundation of what is now Mosher Originals.
Over the last year I have been quietly honing a line of "for people" textile based products. A flood of prototypes and fresh ideas has been driving the evolution of what has become a whole line of products I am keen to finally show off! While this is far from my first time designing accessories and bags, it is definitely my first forray into making every final call. This has been a wonderful chance to create a range of products that is very much an extended reflection of myself and my influences. Our new line is created using the same techniques, durable water resistant materials and attention to detail that has become the signature of Mosher Originals.
The Action Pack
The Action Pack is the culmination of a great blend of materials and countless subtle refinements. This bag is built to be used and it is as versatile and capable as you are. It has been carefully designed to be just as functional on a weekend camping as it is on your way to work. The bag has a 'goldilocks' amount of features, ready to tackle a vast range of activities.
The removable top cap of the bag fastens using the most satisfying and fun hardware out there. We use Fidlock magnetic hardware that lashes itself together automatically and releases with a simple sideways slide. We went to great lengths testing different hardware and concluded that we simply had to go with this revolutionary new fastener! Once you play around with them you will be addicted.
The exterior of the bag has dual side compression straps as well as four lash tabs for strapping on extra gear. The compression straps have Nexus metal mil-spec G-Hooks that allow you to detach them to make straping awkward items simpler. There is one YKK water resistant zippered outer pocket with an expandable box pleat. The back of the bag has AirKnit breathable mesh and a high-density, non-porous foam pad. The shoulder straps are robust and comfortably ergonomic. There is a fiberglass rod that runs above the shoulder strap anchoring point which adds structure and load dispersion.
The main compartment of the bag can be sinched up using the Paracord drawstring top which also allows you to overstuff the bag if you want. The top cap has the ability to adjust and float up keeping everything covered and secure. Inside is a padded laptop sleeve that fits a 15" laptop. There is an additional zippered pocket on the laptop sleeve for whatever you like.

The GOTO is a backpack that uses all the same materials, techniques and know-how of its bigger sibling the Action Pack. It is a smaller (18L) daypack/school bag with just the right essential mix of compartments and comfort. To be honest, this bag is good enough to be a Kickstarter campaign on its own had we been a bit less ambitious! This is our favourite "go-to" daily backpack that is just the right size for so many situations.
It is built with a tough outer of your choice of Cordura, Waxed Canvas or Army Duck. As with all our products, it is lined with bright orange Oxford Nylon to help you to find your gear at the bottom of the bag. This combination is incredibly durable as well as highly water reisistant.
There is a laptop sleeve in the back of the liner that can fit a 15" laptop with an additional zippered pocket for whatever you like. The shoulder straps are the same as on the Action Pack, with high density non-porous foam and smooth Oxford Nylon undersides.
The front of the bag has one YKK water resistant zippered pocket with an expandable box pleat.

The Action Jacket
The coat that started it all for us! The earliest beginnings were christmas presents for our own dog and her sister. Countless revisions and improvements over the last two years has resulted in a great fitting, ultra durable dog jacket that is our flagship dog product.
The Action Jacket is available in all the same materials as our bags, lined with Primaloft Fleece. Super waterproof and durable!
A surprise hit this past winter, made with waxed canvas and fleece. It's wind and water proof and keeps your neck or face warm and dry. Fastened with amazing Fidlock hardware for easy use even with mitts on.
What is the funding for?
We now know what machines and tools we need to add to our fleet in order to make bags properly and efficiently. An essential step in creating any carry item is the reinforcement provided by a bartack machine. Bartacks on bags are used throughout and as a final touch of added durability. The largest chunk of the Kickstarter funds would be dedicated to purchasing a bartacker to ensure that all MO products stand the test of time.
The other pieces of equipment that would make creating all of our products more efficiently are a fabric spreader and an industrial fabric cutter. The spreader lays out sheets of fabric in a stack to be cut, saving countless hours of labour. A high capacity fabric cutter would be the other main tool that could have a large impact on efficiency as it allows you to cut out dozens of layers at a time.
Below is a video by our good friend Jackson Wallace (who created our main video) that gives further perspective into the operations of our small business.
The company consists of myself (Tom Mosher) with the added capabilities of Brian Bennett and Corey Brown as well as the endless wisdom of my family, friends and loving wife Marnie! And it's all for our amazing girl Hella!
Risks and challenges
Using our years of experience in manufacturing handmade textile products we are confident we can tackle the fabrication of the rewards on time. We have redundant suppliers lined up for all of our materials as well as the availability of extra skilled team members that can be added to the production team should they be required. One of the great facts of making things yourself is that you are not at the mercy of the delays inherent with out-of-house manufacturing. Our team is ready to jump on the rewards in an efficient and well planned attack, we're keen to get these great products into your hands as we know how much you will enjoy them.
We have already spent the countless hours refining the designs and getting them ready for production. We are confident in the products and our abilities to create them at the highest level.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
