About

 Welcome!

Have you ever wanted to have a strategy card game that is easy to carry around, feels premium and is perfectly suited for two people experience? If so, you are not alone.

Caras Game is designed to feel as exciting as many video games are and our goal is to bring it to a completely new tabletop game.

The game is still in development, but if funded, it can reach your hands as early as June or July.

Developing a game with advanced 3D rendered graphics can be very expensive, that is why we don't see many tabletop games like that. However, we have all the resources to make this happen, all we need now is your support.

About Caras

Caras is based on a primitive tribal war theme. The game is built around the ideas of how primitive war used to be. You can choose between crushing your enemy with raw power, cutting down their ability to gather resources and starve them or you can play defensively and focus on your own protection and resources.

The name Caras comes from Spanish word faces and Lithuanian word War (Karas). This is why all of the cards are in the form of character portraits.

Caras Basics

Caras Game is a turn-based, two-player strategy card game.

Every match starts with both players shuffling their decks and picking 5 starting cards. Each turn, player picks one additional card from the deck and can play one card from the hand.

A match usually takes 25-40, time ranges from 10 to 25 minutes and up, depending on the players.

Game’s objective is to save your people and crush your enemy first. In other words, the first player without any cards left, looses.

Combat

Attack Points are only used when the card launches an attack on the enemy. Only faced up cards can attack. Any cards, including faced down cards can be attacked.

Defense points are only counted when the card is being attacked and it does not matter if the attacked card is faced down or face up.

  • If the attack points are higher than defense points of the attacked card, the attacking card kills it.
  • If the attack points are equal than defense points of the attacked card, both cards are killed.
  • If the attack points are lower than defense points of the attacked card, the attacking card is being killed.

Cards that are killed go to the graveyard and cannot be used again in the match.

Timer and Card Activation

Timer refers to the position of the face-down card. There are 4 different positions, all of them are numbered from one to four. The timer is only used while the card is face-down and is not activated.

Every card must first be put face down in the first position. Every new turn player must switch the timers of all the faced down cards that he currently has on the table.

If the face-down card is attacked by the enemy while and is not killed, the card becomes activated and can be used when the user’s turn comes.

If the player wants to activate the card, it must first be in the correct face down position.

If the card is in the correct position to be activated, but the player does not want to activate it, he can choose to do so and the card will continue to stay on the battlefield and may only be activated again after four turns when it switches back to the correct position.

Resources and Starvation

Apart from being killed by an enemy, there is also a risk of starving your people to death.

Ways to get resources

  • Survival cards can gather resources for you, but they are defenseless against the enemy and have a high risk of being killed.
  • Opportunist card Golden Orange steals the resources from the enemy when it attacks a survival card.
  • Merchant grants free resources for the first three rounds.

Starvation

The player loses one card from the deck for each turn he is out of resources. The first card on top of the deck is sacrificed.

If the deck is empty and the only cards left are in his hand, a player has to choose one card from his hand to sacrifice. If there are only characters left on the field, a player must sacrifice one of them.

Card types

Tactical cards are the best at developing strategies and acting on them. Includes Henri, Hazel the Orphan and Flint.

Survival cards act as the main way to gather resources and keep your people away from starvation. Includes Flea the Gatherer and Aspen the Huntress.

Trap cards are very effective at killing the enemy troops. Includes Orion the Alchemist and Dandelion.

Opportunist cards can be used to gather resources from other ways than survival cards. Includes Golden Orange and Merchant.

Promotion cards are the strongest type of cards with unique effects and can only be used to promote Henri. Includes The Butcher, Hole Father and The Peacekeeper.

A more detailed rules book will be released shortly in PDF format, available to everyone.

Digital Print Bundle

Digital prints come in A2 (4961 pixels x 7016 pixels) print-ready formats which you will be able to bring to the closest print shop and do it cheaply yourself.

The artworks will not have cards interface, it will be focused on the characters only.

Risks and challenges

The game will be printed in Asia and then shipped to the UK. After receiving it, all that's left will be putting everything in parcel boxes and shipping it. Main risks regarding production and shipment include losing some of the produced decks and production or shipment delay. However, this was accounted for when deciding on the Kickstarter budget.

The biggest challenge will be taking care of individual deliveries.

As this is my first Kickstarter project, it is likely that I will face some challenges that I was not prepared for.
