In 2014 you helped us to create 'Articulate', a one-of-kind, audience-interactive concert that explored the evolution of communication technology. 'Articulate' showed through dance and technology the history of communication from the rotary phone to the smart phone, and invited audience members to film and photograph the show with their smart phones. By using a specific hashtag to post these photos and videos, audience members were able to see their captures projected into the show! Set in the historic Provo Library Ballroom, dancers utilized fabric and other unique props to create a production that was heralded as sophisticated, thought-provoking, and cutting-edge - you should all be very proud of this show you helped us to produce!
So why another Kickstarter? With your help, we created a stunning show that did more than entertain - it did what art has the greatest power to do - make people think! But despite the great success of the show, we ran into three challenges, and we have been itching to restage this show bigger and better! We've rented the Provo Library Ballroom again and rehearsals have already begun to restage this show on November 15 and 16, 2016! But with your help, we can conquer these three challenges:
1) The first challenge we faced was limited time rehearsing in the Provo Library Ballroom. It wasn't in the budget to rent extra rehearsal time inside the Ballroom before the day of the performance last time. The show is created for this specific site, and aspects of the show depend greatly on the architecture of the room, including the four pillars, window wells, and a performance area that is smaller than 18x18 feet! You can imagine what a challenge that was! Those dancers worked hard to make it work, but we would feel more comfortable and confident with an extra full-day rehearsal in the space several weeks before the performance! That rental will cost us $420.
2) The second challenge we faced concerned the technological aspects of the show. Last time we rented 3 projectors that were used in the show. Renting the projectors meant we had limited time to work with the projectors and make sure our vision would work out. Thanks to our hard working media specialist (and a little grace from the technology gods), you saw a seamless production involving video, audio and projection. But this time we have grand ideas on how to improve and add to the media aspects of this show, and we need to rehearse with at least one projector during the whole season. So in order to achieve things like live feed and dancer-projection interaction, (and your business logo cameos - see the rewards section!) we would like to purchase a projector, which will cost about $300.
3) The last element we'd like to add to our 2016 performance is theater lighting. Think about the added ambiance and dynamics we can achieve with lights! We can rent all the lighting we need for about $200-$250.
If we achieve more than our $1,050 goal, the additional money will be used to improve costuming, repair fabric and props, and increase our advertising of this event! We're thrilled to present this show again and we hope you are excited to help make it even better than last time! Did you get to see the show 2 years ago? Tell us what you loved about the show! And then check out the awesome rewards you can get for helping us to achieve our goals!
Risks and challenges
The great thing about backing this project is - you can already rest assured that the performance is going to happen. The contracts are signed and the funding has been secured to perform on Nov 15-16 at the Provo Library! But you can help with the details! Make this show the best it can be!
With this show we're working with lots of variables - the fabric and other props, the projectors and lap tops, and a gaggle of chords. Sure, there are always challenges associated with these kinds of things. BUT we've already done the show once before and we know what to expect. We've scheduled ample rehearsal time for working with the new elements we want to add, and since we've already started rehearsals on this show, we can tell you how great the rehearsals are going. Since most of the choreography is already created, a much greater proportion of our time is being spent refining the details, practicing with the above mentioned variables, and really polishing this production. We can't wait for you to see the final product!
We've already detailed the challenges we faced the last time we presented this show and the solution to those challenges is - you!
The creation and fulfillment of this production does not need approval or review from any outside parties, and we have successfully delivered on both our previous Kickstarter campaigns in 2012 and 2014. We have a strong record of following through and we appreciate every single dollar that is pledged!
