Because of your incredible generosity, we were able to meet our $10,000 goal in less than a week! Given that we still have a week-and-a-half left, we're hoping to reach a secondary goal of $1,000-$2,000. Here's what we would do with the funds:
-upgrade our CD design with hand-lettered calligraphy (as opposed to using the free font I found online!)
-hire a professional photographer to take photos during the recording process for use in the CD booklet (and for future promotional usage)
-fund a US, UK and/or European tour!
Again, we are so grateful for the support we've already received and we would be thrilled to thank you all in person during our next tour!
Andrew and Elizabeth (Bethie)
We have been planning this disc since we first met at the Peabody Conservatory in 2007. The idea was sparked by a rendition of Giulio Caccini's 'Amarilli mia bella' by using only Elizabeth's voice and Andrew's viol. The result was magical and never fails to leave audiences asking for a recording!
(This clip of "Amarilli mia bella" is a live recording from a 2010 concert.)
Over the past six years, we've compiled other pieces that lend themselves to our unique duo, and we can't wait to share them with you on this disc!
This project wouldn't be possible without Andrew's versatility. With ideas stemming from the 'lyra viol' tradition, he manipulates the viol to act as both lute and second voice to Elizabeth; his inventive playing negates the need for additional instruments. Elizabeth's rich and expressive voice holds its own over what is, at times, minimal accompaniment, but she seamlessly weaves in and out of the viol textures.
(This is a sample of our version of Filippo Azzaiolo's "Chi passa per sta strada" with Andrew playing the viol 'col legno' by hitting the strings with the back of his bow.)
With just soprano and viola da gamba, this CD offers a new perspective to old music.

Risks and challenges
As seasoned recording artists, we understand the issues that can arise during the course of a recording session: illness, severe weather, a loud helicopter over the recording venue, et cetera. Should any of these issues arise, it would only delay the project, not cancel it. We have both invested significant amounts of time and money into reaching this point, and we're determined to see the project through!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
