WELCOME TO THE FIRST MISFIT CORNER COMICS KICKSTARTER!
Hello. My name is Andrew Charipar and I am the Co-Founder of Misfit Corner Comics, LLC and I am Super Proud to introduce our first Kickstarter project, HERO Book One.
HERO Book One is the first in a series of Kid-Friendly Original Graphic Novels that I Co-Created with my children Michael and Ayla. Michael and I wrote the stories and I illustrated the series. The cover was colored by Avery Butterworth and the series was edited by Comic Extraordinaire, Bob Bretall.
On the day he emerges from his winter hibernation after all the snow had melted away, it is foretold that this small woodland creature will be 'the greatest hero our world has ever known", hence his mother named him HERO.
HERO Book One begins the journey of HERO and his best friend Pudge as they head out into the world to find adventure and to discover what being a real HERO is all about.
Their adventure begins with a planned trip across the Waylong Plain and through the dark and scary Kindermore Forest in order to meet their fathers at the Ashmore Tree and the Harvest Fields. Of course, nothing in life goes as planned and HERO and Pudge find themselves traveling into unplanned territories.
Unknown to HERO and Pudge, evil forces are forming and have begun following the duo on their journey.
"[HERO Book One] is an all ages Graphic Novel the takes you on a journey of discovery, innocence and what it takes to become a Hero. I can't wait for volume 2. The book has a lot of heart and you will fall in love with Hero and Pudge. I also have a fondness for Granny Ora! You will not be disappointed." -Michael Meyers, Geek Brunch Podcast
HERO Book One contains the full 150 page story, a 4 page Epilogue and a never before seen 8 page backup story. It also includes a Pin Up section with 10 full page illustrations by series artist Andrew Charipar as well as 9 Pin Ups by a host of incredibly talented artists including Harold Jennett III, Rich Bernatovech, Luciano Vecchio and several others that Andrew has meet over the years.
Book One is completely DONE. All the art. All the gray tones. All the lettering. Is done. As a matter of fact, we are already 50+ pages into Book Two (hoping to have completed by the end of 2017). It was important to us to have everything done before we started the Kickstarter campaign. We wanted to bring the book to our backers as soon as possible and hope everyone enjoys it as much as we have enjoyed creating it.
I'm not sure if this has ever been done before with Kickstarter but I wanted to have every level of pledges ($10 or more) to include an original piece of art. I love drawing and I love drawing HERO. More than anything, I love sharing my art with friends, family and fans.
One of the things I do with the art is draw each character (as well as the backgrounds) on separate piece of art paper. I plan to do a lot of the next book on the 7x9 pages. This means some of the 7x9 sketch rewards may also be actual panel art for the next book. An original sketch and a published piece of art... A win-win for everyone.

PREMIUM PLEGE AWARD PACKAGES
I went through all the individual panels from HERO Book One and picked my favorite to offer as Premium Pledge Award Packages. Each one includes a signed and numbered copy of the HERO Book One Hardcover and an original sketch of your choice of characters.
All pledge awards $10 and more will not only be receiving pieces of original art and/or a copy of HERO Book One but you will also receive a mini comic copy of the first FULL chapter of HERO Book Two. All pledges for the Digital Copy ONLY will receive a PDF of the first FULL chapter of HERO Book Two.
The mini comics are printed, hand folded, stapled and cut by me. They are a nod to our indie comic roots as well as a throwback to the days of collectible ashcans (for those of you familiar with the concept of ashcans from the 90's). I will be posting a picture on the campaign shortly of what a mini comic will look like.
All pledges $10 and up will also receive 3 8x10 black and white prints on thick card stock paper. Perfect for coloring and/or framing!
The Future of HERO
We have several different story lines in development as well as a larger, over arching story line that will encompass all the books in the series. We have already started on HERO Book Two, which should include another 6 chapters plus bonus material. As of right now, we are working on completing the third chapter of Book Two, Chapter Nine.
In addition to working on the next book of HERO, we have hired artist Avery Butterworth to color HERO Book One for a potential individual issue release later in 2017. This Kickstarter will be the ONLY way to get the limited edition, signed and numbered Hardcover editions of HERO Book One in the original Black/White and Gray art. We are making this Kickstarter something special for everyone who contributes.
Risks and challenges
I personally think the risk to the backers are very minimal. All the art for the books are done. I have already ordered proof copies of the softcover and hardcover versions of the final book so I know they look great and I have calculated all the printing cost into the rewards.
I have lots of experience with eBay and shipping and handling art and books so I am confident I can handle all the rewards.
The biggest challenge is the unknown. This my first Kickstarter campaign and I'm sure things will come up. I have friends that have had successful Kickstarters and they have been helping me look for problems before they happen and I'm confident we can handle anything thrown at us.
Communication is the key and I pledge to keep everyone informed and up to date on all aspects of our progress through Kickstarter. I'm looking forward to all the challenges that should come.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
