Hi, and welcome to the beginning of my very first album!
I am working hard to create a CD with many different songs written by me, Earthwork musicians, or other friends. I have asked permission to use songs by Seth Bernard, May Erlewine, Joshua Davis, Rachael Davis, Courtney Kaiser, and Darlene. All have graciously agreed... thank you so much! I have written a special song of my own and will write another before my album is complete. To hear some of my past musical performances, you can go to YouTube and search, "Sonya Shoup." (My mom's favorite example is a performance with Steppin' In It.)
I will put information about my CD on KickStarter and will share info (with your help!) via Facebook, Twitter, and other social media. To help raise awareness and gain more practice in performing, I hope to participate in the local Round-Up radio show.
I have already been working to create my first rough cuts with the wonderful help of Joshua Davis and my Dad. Josh has taught me a great deal about what it takes to set up a quiet recording space, how to isolate sounds (a bathroom works fine), how royalties are paid, what to do to clear up congestion before singing (tea tree oil, Halls cough drops and hot water) and how to have a blast while working in a recording studio.
In October, I started learning guitar and, with the help of my teacher, Ron Getz, will work hard to play as much lead guitar as I can. Where I need help, Dad and other friends will provide backup. Thanks, Dad (and friends)!
I need support from numerous backers to help my music continue to be all it can be. My life is music, and all the love and smiles that it brings. Thank you to everyone who has and is supporting me and my music! I hope you'll enjoy my new album, Standing Tall.
Risks and challenges
Creating this album will be a lot of work. I know that if I want this to succeed, it means practicing my guitar every day after school, sitting still during recording sessions (*laugh*), designing the album cover and notes, and ensuring that I follow through on every last promise to my backers! My family has supported me all along the way, and I couldn't have made it to this moment if it weren't for them.
Challenges like school demands and finding time to practice are the largest problems I will have to face. I promise to give all I can to this album and practice my music everyday. I will keep my promises and follow through with what I say. I once spent all day hauling brush with my grandfather and cleaning windows for my grandmother to earn money to reach a goal. I did my best and all my hard work paid off. The same will be true with this project.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
