About

Meritocracy is more than just a game, it’s a brand new deck of cards. Travel back through to time to gather the best individuals from history to defeat your opponent. Like a standard deck of cards, you can create your own games and rules, allowing Meritocracy to provide unlimited entertainment for years to come.

201 characters, 9 classes, 32 subclasses, and endless possibilities. We have started you with 4 original types of gameplay, or you can create your own!  YOU are the best person for the job.

Contained in each game there are 4 sets of rules that we have designed.  Players are encouraged to follow them, change them, or design their own rules!  Your version of the game can be shared to our website for everyone to discover.

Here are the original sets of rules we have created:

Based upon the traditional game of Memory, we amped this game up with additional bonuses and a mighty deck of cards to provide hours of fun.

A 2 player game of high difficulty, this version utilizes the full spectrum of actions available through the card iconography.

Players seek to score points by creating attack formations and battling their opponent's defence structures.

Gameplay video unlocked at $300,000 stretch goal.

The form your surroundings take may lift the spirit or confound the soul. Great civilizations require great artists to say who they are and how they will be remembered.  Art is the deep memory and future vision of all humanity.

  • Painter

From ancient cave paintings, to the renaissance, to the futurists.  A great painting really does say a thousand words, if not more.  It can also have a thousand meanings.

  • Architect

Where we live, and how we live, depends on what we live in.  The architect shapes our society, so that we may live in harmony with each other and our surroundings.

  • Poets

It is said "The poets speaks the language of the soul."  Between rhythm and allusion springs fourth the deep truth off humanity.  The great poet speaks for all.

  • Sculpturist

If God fashioned the human form in his own image, then God is a sculpturist.  Making a reflection of ourselves from the very bones of the earth is truly enlightened work.

Innovators are that rare form of human being that for better or worse push humanity forward with their ideas, bravery, and "can do" spirit.  We owe our modern technological society to these titans of progress.

  • Industrialist

The industrialist has provided humanity with a great number of jobs and prosperity.  All major cities require an industrialist as its anchor.

  • Explorer

The explorer opens up new territory for expansion and exploitation.  New frontiers provide humanity with fertile ground to thrive.

  • Inventor

The inventor applies new knowledge to new uses, opening unheard of markets and abilities.

  • Engineer

The engineer refines and applies "best practices" to all human knowledge, making societies more efficient.

Entertainers take the cultural zeitgeist and continually tear it down, expand it, or revision society to make us feel more connected.  They are the greatest arbitrators of freedom of speech, freedom of expression, and the freedom of thought.

  • Actor

To pretend to be someone else, is the great manifestation of empathy.  Those on the screen, or the stage show us who we truly are.

  • Musician

Music is a beautiful language.  It is our greatest display of emotion from joy to sorrow.  All great societies hold the musician in high regard.

  • Director

Combing music, speech, and the moving picture, the director is the greatest culmination of the age old art of story telling.

  • Author

There is no deeper truth found then the written word.  Books have set our imaginations free and spread the knowledge of one to many.

Those who strive against the common good, the common law or the common authority are always remembered or sometimes heralded.  Morality myths and daily gossip are full of those who did wrong, and whether they got away with it.

  • Thief

When the concept of ownership and property rights were established, so was the thief.  Whether out of survival or greed, there are always those who want what you have.

  • Murderer

The greatest crime and a powerful thrill.  Those who have taken another's life in cold blood have horrified and fascinated the general public.

  • Outlaw

The outlaw lives apart from the rules that govern his neighbours and chooses to follow their own path.  Whether on the run, or challenging authority, conformity is out of the question.

  • Masterminds

The most audacious crimes require planning, preparation, and timing.  These geniuses of the dark arts use their intellectual resources to perpetrate the perfect caper.

What is mind?  Does the soul exist?  What happens after we die?  Those that claim to know the answers speak of spirit, in concert with the human intellect.  These beliefs play a critical role in how we see ourselves, the way we fit into the world around us and how we organize our societies.

  • Theist

Believes in truth through revelation, the word of God comes alive in the form of a prophet, a dream, or a divine experience.  There have been more than five thousand deities worshipped in human history.  Are you a God?

  • Atheist

Believes in only that which can be proven... multiple times.  Scepticism and rationality are the tools of these unbelievers.  There may be a God, but the atheist requires proof.

  • Philosopher

Uses the power of the intellect to find truth or meaning in the world.  Asking the "big" questions has long be a favourite past time for humanity, but will we ever find the answers?

  • Occultist

Believes in dark mystical forces present in the mind and in nature.  Morality is a toy to be played with and sometimes broken.  A persuasive personality; may ensnare many to their cause.

The greatest technological achievements over the breadth of human history are born and nurtured in the scientific laboratory.  The scientist strives to unlock the great cosmic tool box available in nature and uses what is found to improve... or... maybe destroy our society.

  • Physicist

Using mathematics and observation, the physicist tests the way the universe operates, replacing old ideas with more accurate theories.  Their contributions has allowed man to leave the planet, diagnose complicated medical conditions, and communicate across the earth.

  • Chemist

Chemistry is the study of what everything is made of and how the individual parts interact with each other.  From modern pharmaceuticals to explosives, chemists have realized powerful natural forces.

  • Naturalist

From geology to psychology, the naturalist studies the functioning systems of the planet and the societies upon it.  Whether animal, vegetable, or mineral, everything changes with time.

  • Mathematician

Mathematics is said to be the language of the universe, and after thousands of years we are still finding new tools and meanings within its patterns.  Mathematics is a solid foundation for all walks of life.

Life is a continuous struggle for survival.  Whether in pitched battle or just pushing oneself to achieving greater heights, everyone has the warrior spirit within.  Great deeds, large and small, are often remembered by society and celebrated repeatedly.

  • Journalist

They say the pen is mightier than the sword.  The journalist can topple regimes, change public opinion or expose scandal and corruption.  The tactic of influence is a mighty weapon.

  • Athlete

Organized sport is a great way for nations or communities to test their neighbours without the need for violence.  Whether individually or collectively, the athlete represents the nations finest.

  • Military

War has been with us as long as we can remember.  The people chosen to lead these wars may obtain great riches or forfeit theirs nations viability.  The oldest stories tell the tale of these great gambles.

  • Activist

The activist fights for their chosen cause by their deeds and by their words.  They stand for the highest ideals of morality and equality.  They can also resort to more nefarious measures in their quest.

Some are born to it.  Some are chosen for it.  Some choose it for themselves.  Leading a nation, whether large or small, is perhaps the greatest calling known to any ambitious person.  The responsibility and rewards are large, the results can be eternal... or catastrophic.

  • Monarch

Kings and queens are born into life long leadership through the royal birth line.  Some hold real power, and some are figureheads, becoming a symbol of national pride.  Many wars have been fought over the right to be called the king.

  • Elected

Chosen by the people to lead the nation for a period of time.  The elected leader carries a mandate of election promises into office.  Some are kept, some are broken, and approval may rise and fall.  The leader must walk a fine line to be elected again.

  • Dictator

Hold their populations by acts of intimidation, bribery, and brutal displays of force.  In spite of impoverished citizens, hostile neighbours and treacherous subordinates, a surprisingly high number of dictators reach a peaceful death... But most don't.

The polymath exceeds in all aspects of life.  Whether science, art, diplomacy, invention, or philosophy, these great intellects have proved to the world they are the best person for the job.  We have chosen the greatest of these giants to be the strongest card in the game.

Future expansion packs will be available after the game is released and history has given us an unlimited amount of people to choose from.  These expansion packs will include a new subclass for each class, 6 more polymath cards, and possible rogue classes.

  • Primordial

Have you ever played a card game in virtual reality?

Risks and challenges

This is our first kick at the starter. For the last 2 years, we have been challenged with bringing our idea to reality. We have located a manufacturer and sourced adequate pricing. The game has been beta tested.

All pledges WILL receive a copy of the game if we meet our minimum funding goal. But, quality and time will be added depending on the stretch goals achieved.

We can say that if we reach $40,000, we will be able to bring a store ready professional product.

Quality of the game, availability of the perks, and future expansion packs will rely entirely on your support.

For those who's pledge includes a t-shirt, we will send out an email notification for choice of character.
