It's about time I started a podcast!
In the past decade I've hitchhiked hundreds of thousands of miles, couch surfed and camped in thousands of spots and met so many incredible people along the way in dozens of countries and beautiful places. I've been hugged, I've been mugged, I've been rich without money, made my own travel gear, worked odd jobs, walked untold miles, eaten sparsely at some points and like a king at others. It's been a fulfilling, dynamic journey.
I've accumulated heaps of stories and tips, every day brings more as I keep on moving.
The funding goal will cover SoundCloud's pro plan for podcasting for a year ($15 a month) as well as Kickstarter's fees.
While my blog (http://www.hobolifestyle.com) has plenty of written stories and advice for freestyle travelers, it's clear that an audio version could be more expressive and an easier medium to share with those who are interested, and it's something I can keep up with easier than videos.
I plan on recounting great adventures from the past to inspire, sharing what's currently going on in my wanderings and talking with other travelers and interesting people I meet. In addition I'll share travel tips for you in the realm of hitchhiking, couch surfing, camping, lightweight packing, finding cheap flights, great beers and basically whatever's on my mind. I'll also take some time to address emails from listeners (early episodes will prioritize Kickstarter backers, see the rewards for details).
The idea is to post a new episode every week or two, depending on the flow of travel. I understand how important consistency is in podcasting, so I'll make an effort to maintain that the best I can.
So we smashed the basic goal of paying for hosting in less than a day, amazing! This is happening and even the first stretch goal of getting a decent microphone is already possible.
$350 - Get lightweight microphones for better sound quality. Update: We made it!
$450 - Live streaming. If we get to $450 I'll be able to do a decent amount of on-the-go live audio and video streaming from just about any country I'm in via a global phone plan. That should be fun too! Update: We made it!
$+++ - As more backers get on board I'll be looking at the relative gear and production options, basically the more funding the better quality this podcast will be.
If it really grows then I'll also be looking at my options to get myself in a secluded spot for a few weeks where I'll be able to finish my book (delves into the best stories from my travels over the past decade, goes hand-in-hand with podcast content) and record plenty of stories for the podcast which will get the consistency rolling.
Basically the higher we go over the goal, the higher the audio quality and the more frequently I can stream live and stay connected with listeners.
So that's it! Pledge if you want this to happen and happen it will.
Happy travels and good times, listen for me soon!
Risks and challenges
The only risk would be if I break, lose or get my electronics stolen at some point down the road, that would likely cause a delay between episodes. Let's go ahead and not have that happen.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
