We want to offer children the chance to express their creativity through a variety of different arts.
On May 12, up to 90 youngsters ages 6 to 13 will rotate through workshops led by regional artists in cartooning, drama, poetry, pottery, eco-sculpture and music during a Children's Day of Art in Morristown, New Jersey. They'll have a chance to dabble in some edible art with Chef Melody of The Main Event during lunch, and the day will end with a reception for the young artists, their parents and the instructors.
The Children's Day of Art is part of a two-week community arts festival hosted by St. Peter's Episcopal Church, which has a long history of supporting music and the arts. The festival will include an art show sponsored by MorristownGreen.com and open to preschool through high school artists in the community; a jazz coffeehouse featuring the Peter Moffitt Medicine Show, composed of New York area musicians; and a poetry night for poets of all ages.
The Family Success Center of Morris County will sponsor an art contest and lead hands-on art activities for children during the art show's opening on April 27. The May 6 Morristown Arts Walk, sponsored by the Arts Council of the Morris Area and ArtSpace Studio, will feature the kids art show plus exhibits by nearly 50 Morris County artists in public spaces around town.
Your support will help us pay for quality art supplies, artist fees, food and scholarships for children who can’t afford to pay the $20 registration fee for the Day of Art. And you will have the chance to receive gifts created using the artwork of our participants as well as some items unique to St. Peter’s, such as touring the bell tower and requesting a song to be played on the 49-bell carillon or playing our historic Skinner organ.
