I'm Peter Loffredo, award-winning screenwriter with seven projects for film and television optioned in recent years. I am writing to you because there is a lot of excitement and buzz building for my new series, "City Rock". We need your help to bring this amazing series to life!
"City Rock" is a dramatic, moving, edgy and controversial show that will captivate its audience in a deeply profound way. Set in Manhattan in the early 1980's the series follows a group of working-class heroes - social workers, teachers, etc. - who have a powerful calling to help the disenfranchised, street-tough teenagers struggling to survive around them in the greatest city in the world. Like cops without guns, the heroes of City Rock work to rescue those teens as their life-and-death struggles play out on the rooftops, window ledges, and seedy streets of Times Square, right alongside the pimps, prostitutes, drug dealers and their customers that flocked to the city in the 1980's. There is a “Friday Night Lights” element as well in "City Rock", not organized football, but the cut-throat, inner-city, high-stakes game of concrete softball, the only pocket of freedom in our characters' lives.
"City Rock" is a powerful drama and has the committed interest of Paul Michael Glaser (Star - Starsky and Hutch, Houdini, Ray Donovan, Director - Ray Donovan, Miami Vice), Natasha Lyonne (Star - Orange is the New Black), Margot Lulick (Producer - Person of Interest), Patricia Chica (Director), Karen Giordano (Producer, Actress) , and Kimberly Skyrme (Casting Director - House of Cards).
The first 6 episodes of "City Rock" were staged in New York City, directed by Paul Michael Glaser, starring Natasha Lyonne as the female lead, before sold-out crowds and rave reviews at the Cherry Lane Theatre in Manhattan.
The "City Rock" series is fully developed and ready to go - we have two full seasons of 13 one-hour episodes written, full treatments, character breakdowns, episode summaries spanning 5 seasons, and archival material grappling with news and cultural events from the 1980’s that are very relevant today - heroin, crack, AIDS, sexual fluidity, feminism, struggling youth, civil rights, abortion, mental health, etc.
"City Rock" is perfect for both cable as well as Netflix, Hulu, Yahoo, or Amazon. The 1980’s is a deeply evocative period and is just beginning to be exploited for the rich world it was. The stories and settings of "City Rock" has and will continue to deeply engage fans from 20-somethings to 60-somethings.
With your donations, we will be able to continue with pre-production, travel, development, pitching the series around the country to networks and production companies, and hire the crew we need to get "City Rock" on the air! With your help "City Rock" can become a reality - thank you for your support!
Risks and challenges
It is a difficult challenge to get a television series picked up by a network - many great shows fall through the cracks, and often, only the most well-known writers can get in the door. But we are realistically optimistic about City Rock's potential! We have the interest of greats such as Paul Michael Glaser, and Natasha Lyonne, and serious interest and praise from award-winning directors, producers of hit network TV series, and even executives at the impenetrable HBO. We intend to use our Kickstarter funds to bring this fully-developed project (26 episodes written and workshopped), that already has a fan base, right to the doorsteps of major production companies, studios and internet media. If need be, we will put a billboard on the Westside Highway asking Reed Hastings at Netflix for a meeting!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
