'Chocolates by Ryan L Foote’ reinvents traditional chocolates by using the latest 3D-printing technologies and combining them with classic chocolate-making techniques.
Founded and developed by Artist, Designer & Chef Ryan L Foote after years of experimentation and research, 'Chocolates by Ryan L Foote’ blends architectural and nature-inspired shapes with daring, deliciously uncompromising flavours.
The complex digitally-formed shapes take inspiration from mesmerising visual worlds of natural minerals, geological formations and the built world of architecture.
Over the last three years Foote has been living between Melbourne and Hong Kong enjoying the culinary delights of both cities.
‘Chocolates by Ryan L Foote’ captures these unique regional flavours, from unfamiliar Australian botanicals, traditional Hong Kong local foods and desserts to a range of single origin chocolate from the Asia Pacific region.

When it came to the box design, we really wanted to create minimal, that allows the chocolates to shine without distractions.
We also came up with a range of rich creamy drinking chocolate. Beginning with three indulgent flavours to start off the range, are

- Dried Mandarin Rind Dark Chocolate for Hong Kong Collection
- Single Origin Chocolate (specific origin TBA)
To complement and heighten your chocolate experience, we have created a range of sleek designer ceramics.
Digitally Formed Porcelain Cup
Using 3D printing technologies, Foote has replicated one of his favourite chocolate forms and recreated it in a fine white porcelain - a beautiful tactile object to hold and drink from!
Tempered Crystalline Glaze Plates and Serving Platters
These sleek minimal pieces are finished with Crystalline Glaze which reflects the complexity of chocolate tempering process.
About crystalline glaze
A precise formula of up to 10 different ingredients, this glaze is heat-treated to 1280C, then the temperature is dropped creating high pressure window, and this is exactly when crystal growth is fostered, resulting in this mesmerising glaze finish.
Just like in fine chocolate making, getting the right crystalline structure and temper is key here!
Timeline and sum breakdown
After 3 years in the making we are now in the final stages of bringing these chocolates to life. We have developed the technologies, methods, designs, packaging, and most importantly, secured and set up a commercial kitchen. We are now looking for your help to bring these products to market.
Your support will allow us to scale production, buy further equipment, produce the full range of boxes and continue refining and developing flavours that bring joy to your taste buds.
About the Founder
Ryan L Foote’s focus sees him bring together his diverse and ranging career from across Art, Design, Food & Drink Design, Theatre, Fashion, and Sustainability. His artwork reflects upon contemporary popular culture and the emergence of trends, taking the form of large installations and event based artworks that create social spaces delving into the opulent culture of food, fashion, art, design, and the layering of visual literacy that surround us. Foote's relational happenings creating unique temporal worlds that engage all the viewers' senses.
In late 2016 after many inquiries for his tableware he established R L Foote Design Studio which produces a range of collectible unique porcelain pieces.
Come 2018, Foote is launching his contemporary range of chocolates for the digital age.

Risks and challenges
As a start up business we have already went though a huge amount of delays and setbacks during the initial set up of the kitchen space, getting food licences, refining designs… There had been times when the timeline had been blown out. Now we’re at a stage where some of the biggest challenges are behind us and we are at the final stretch.
There are a few areas risks are still involved.
There could be possible delays in packaging production. We are speaking with suppliers confirming delivery times now, but there’s a risk closer to Christmas they won’t follow through with their estimated times.
Some of our single origin chocolates have limited supply and smaller capacity comparing to larger industrialised chocolate producers, so we might be limited to their capacity and time frames.
There could be import delays to certain countries and there's a small risk of the rewards not arriving in time for Christmas.
Another risk is that our product is temperature sensitive. We chose a shipping method to suit fast as possible delivery for any of our chocolate products, so they spend as little time as possible in transit. We will be packing the chocolate products with insulation, but there is still a small risk associated with temperature fluctuations during shipping.
