At MagneTree Books We Have 2 Goals:
- 1. Help kids feel closer to their family members through personalized storytelling.
- 2. Foster the innate love for storytelling that we all have. We let little readers choose which characters to put in their story and where to put them. Nothing is more hysterical and enamouring than listening to your little one tell a story full of imaginative twists and turns.
How Does it Work?
When you pledge for a book or two (we suggest two) you will get a gorgeously illustrated board book with a set of photo-magnets of your choice. You can include pictures of mom, dad, grandparents, siblings, and other family members that your kiddo doesn't get to see all the time. Then you let your little reader take over! Let them spread the magnets all over the bed, call out the names of those they love, all while you watch in wonder at how they make the story their own by placing their magnets throughout the story. Giving the book as a gift? No problem, it will come with instructions for the recipient to upload their photos.
Who is MagneTree Books?
We’re a family company that makes personalized books for kids like you’ve never seen. We are one part storytelling sister (Josie), one part imaginative brother (Ronny), and one part Toddler CEO Extraordinaire (Lenny). We thought of interactive, personalized books for kids when Lenny was just an infant and our nephews moved half-way across the world. We didn’t want to be those distant uncle and aunt from overseas. So we made sure our faces would be familiar, that our names would be called out in glee at every bedtime story, and that our family would feel close as ever – no matter how far apart.
Following the ground-breaking success we had with our first book ($20,000 raised in 30 days!), we’ve now SOLD OUT of that title and have developed a brand new story for inquiring minds and page-flipping fingers.
Our new title, Little the Tree, opens with a very special tree called Little. This forest darling has suddenly forgotten how to grow. His leaves are turning grey, he’s not sprouting any new branches, and he’s fading quickly.
The whole forest comes together, with the help of your own family, to help Little get all the nutrients he needs to learn how to grow again. Aside from our #1 focus on family closeness, Little the Tree also focuses on community, helping others, and something fantastically enchanting called Mycorrhizae (inspired by this TED Talk). What on earth is that?! Well, it’s actually under earth, or underground rather. Think of a superhighway that stretches hundreds of miles below our feet. Trees, much like Little, zoom nutrients and vitamins down these superhighways that are made out of Mushroom roots (who knew, right?).
Little the Tree fosters closeness with family as well as with nature in this forest fantasy filled with colourful and loveable characters created by our amazing illustrator, Sonia Quattro.
Sonia is a freelance illustrator and graphic designer based in Toronto. Her unique style, creativity, and imaginative characters breathed a whole life into our book which we never could have imagined! If you support our project you'll be helping us pay her for her countless hours of work :) Which in turn will help feed her pet fish.
Little the Tree is Gender-neutral and suitable for any race/denomination as the only people in the book are your own family members! So grab your favourite aunt or uncle, your mom, and your dog and help the Forest Family bring Little back to his vibrant self so he can keep the circle of forest life going.
Where did MagneTree Books come from? Well, Kickstarter actually. We were able to launch our company and bring the joy of personalized storytelling to thousands of kids thanks to a community of backers like yourself! We launched our first book, Meet Me in Zzzz, through an exciting Kickstarter project that raised $20,000 in just 30 days.
Meet Me in Zzzz tells the story of a child who goes to sleep and embarks on a different dreamy adventure on each page. To each adventure the little reader can choose who to bring along. The result is a bedtime story that brings the entire family to snuggle in close with your little bookworm.
Risks and challenges
Although our first Kickstarter campaign was successful, it wasn't without its challenges. We've learned a lot over the past 2 years and we now have backup plans for our backup plans!
Our book is finished and our printing company is just waiting for us to give them the word to start printing. Even If everything goes a bit bumpy, we expect to have our books in your hands by the end of November and we'll do whatever it takes to make it happen.
We believe in community and we'll be putting a lot of effort into keeping everyone up to date on the project, and answering any questions you might have.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
