SOVEREIGN: THE RETURN Vol 1 Graphic Novel
2516 Machine Era. The ultimate being and an 8-year-old slave. Together they set out on a quest to destroy the Grey and save the planet.
Well, here it is! After many years of talking about creating my own comic book series, I’m finally doing it, and as a kickstarter, too! I have to be honest, this is both exciting and very scary at the same time. Okay, now let’s do this...
I’m Andrew Huerta, and I'm making SOVEREIGN: THE RETURN vol 1. As stated in the video, I’m coming to Kickstarter because I need your support to get SOVEREIGN made. With the funds raised by YOU, the Backers, I will be able to work on SOVEREIGN: THE RETURN vol 1 full-time and finally get this book in your hands.
And if Sovereign doesn't get made, then so be it, but it’s all about taking a chance in life, right?
SOVEREIGN will be a 6.5 x 10.2 inch 132 page book that comes in both soft and hard cover formats. The book is being drawn by me and written by both me and Fred Kennedy with Joshua Perez on colors and Deron Bennett on letters. It is scheduled to be finished in December of 2017, and shipped out to backers in March/April of 2018.
Below is a glimpse of what the final product will look like...
On the planet EÅ in the year 2516 M.E. (Machine Era). A post-apocalyptic future where advanced sentient machines known as The Grey, have laid waste to most of humanity and are draining the planet of its eon-energy.
Years ago, during “The Last War”, the conflict between man and machine caused the accidental destruction of the moon. Humans lost. And the machines grafted the moon to the Earth to save themselves, and in the process, created their own machine “planet”. Ecologies have been altered and mutated. The remaining humans live in massive metric Cities counting down the days as the planet is sucked out of its essence. But Eå resurrects its champion, the ultimate elemental being…Sovereign.
He assembles what resistance remains and scours the earth of The Grey and their creator.
I wish I could ask for less money but $44,000 is the amount I need to make this happen. And I cut as many corners as possible to bring the costs down to something thats still realistic for making a book at a high quality at this size. About half the funds are going to the production of the content (writing, drawing, coloring and lettering the book) and the other half is getting the books printed and shipped.
Here's the cost breakdown:
- Production: $30,000 This covers my time drawing and writing the book ($18,750), paying the Colorist ($8,750), paying the Letterer ($2,500), and getting the book ready for print. (60%)
- Printing and Shipping: $8,000 This covers getting the books printed then shipped to my place. Then comes packing the books and shipping charges. I will pack the orders in bubble wrap, then put into a strong cardboard case. (31%)
- Fees: $6000 Kickstarter and Amazon fees. (9%)
- January - February: Manage Kickstarter campaign
- February: Finish and tighten up the rest of the Sovereign script
- March - December: Drawing, Coloring and Lettering the book. (I know this seems like a long stretch for making the book, but with my art style, it takes me about 2 months, give or take, to draw 22 comic pages and Sovereign: The Return is around 132 pages.) 2018
- January - February: Prepping for print and printing the book
- March - April: Packing and Shipping

Risks and challenges
The biggest risk to SOVEREIGN is not reaching its funding goal. Other possible risks range from production mishaps, malfunctions with the printer and shipping delays.
That being said, the SOVEREIGN team will do whatever we must, without ego, to make good on our promise and reward your support by making sure we deliver a great story, ON TIME, to our backers.
Lastly, communication and transparency is extremely important to us. Backers will get bi-weekly updates about the production of this book and will be notified immediately of any setbacks.
We thank you in advance for your support.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
