About this project
Players: 2 Ages: 8+ Duration: 20-30 minutes
Foodfighters was designed by husband & wife team Josh & Helaina Cappel:
- JOSH - an experienced game designer (Wasabi, Bomb Squad Academy) and popular game artist (Belfort, Garden Dice, Scoville, Kings of Air & Steam, Pandemic, etc.)
- HELAINA - an educator and founder of Kids Table Board Gaming; an enterprise dedicated to child development through modern tabletop gaming.
Gamers are drawn to games with novelty and a strong tactile component. Therefore, Foodfighters will be stocked with oodles of great custom components. The most obvious examples of this are the four totally original custom wooden bits in the game:
- spoons - enable fighters to attack at a distance
- crackers - protect fighters as shields
- beans - act as money for the gear and power-ups
- pans - allow a fighter to attack any enemy
Your play experience is important to us. Instead of cards, the fighters are nice thick tiles that are resilient and easier to pick up off the table to move. We've even included a reference card for the cost of items in the Pantry, so that you don't need to refer to the rules.
The three dice in the game are all custom embossed with splats and beans on them—and each die has a different configuration of outcomes! The Power cards for each faction are totally unique and themed to the type of food; adults call this asymmetrical player powers ...kids call it pure awesomeness!
Here is a look at our prototype components:
…and some closer details for you on what these components are all about:
Well, there's a pretty good overview in the campaign video above. Check it out again! If you prefer to read about it, here's the game in a nutshell:
You and your opponent each control a faction of fighting foods. On your turn, you can do one of three things:
- Move a fighter (and collect 1 free Bean).
- Roll dice to Attack an enemy in reach that your fighter is thinking about. Splats mean hits. If you roll no Splats, earn Beans!
- Roll for Beans. Beans are the game's "money".
At the end of your turn, you can spend your Beans (if you want) to buy awesome gear from the Pantry or even awesomer Power cards that are unique to your team. Then it's the other guy's turn. Keep going until you've knocked out three of a kind from your opponent's team, and you've won! That's it!

Right now, like this minute? Not so easily. However, if you are handy with the scissors and you have a printer, some tape, and some assorted bits to stand in for the wooden pieces, you can slap together our super duper PnP (Print n' Play) version of the game and take it for a test toast!
Totally reasonable! We have begged, bribed, coerced, and tricked a bunch of qualified tabletop game reviewers into taking our handmade prototypes of Foodfighters for a spin. Check out their thoughts below!
Yes, every Kickstarter campaign needs something to strive for. In the case of Foodfighters, we have some pretty neat Stretch Goals lined up for you. Check out the Bean Counter below to see how close we are to our goals; below that you'll find details about the various possibilities!
Greeting Cards for the Holidays
Foodfighters probably won't reach you by the holidays, but that shouldn't stop you from buying it for your loved ones. Below is a preview of the greeting card that you can give to said loved ones to let them know that their very own Foodfighters is on its way. Once the campaign is funded, we will send you the pdf that you can print out and give to as many people you would like.
Well, it makes sense that you'd want to! And it's very sweet of you to ask! As a backer, you'll want other people to become backers and help us reach our amazing Stretch Goals. So, please do the social media thing with us, and help spread the word!
The more backers we get, the better everyone's rewards will become!
Thanks folks! Together we can take this thing all the way!

Risks and challenges
The risks in the creation of Foodfighters are real but minimal. We are working with seasoned tabletop game artist and designer Josh Cappel, as well as renowned games manufacturer Panda Games Manufacturing. Components for Foodfighters will be top-of-the-line, from the fighter tiles to the wooden bits. With the experience of everyone involved, Foodfighters production will run smoothly.
The one major challenge that we face is that we really want to get Foodfighters to you before Christmas... but telling you that we will send it to you before Christmas is cutting it pretty close. We absolutely can't guarantee it. The responsible choice is to set the delivery goal for some time in February, and strive to beat it.
Aside from that, the challenge is that this is Kids Table's first game and first crowdfunding project. We have done our best to be prepared for every eventuality, and if we encounter any bumps in the road we will handle them quickly and with the backers' interests in mind.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
