Thanks for checking out my project!

“Dive Masters” will be a reality style web-series shot on location in Roatan, Honduras and other Caribbean dive spots. This won't be some "Hollywood Reality" though. We don't fake it, no fights to create "drama"... we actually like each other! If you like watching and learning about the oceans, reef systems, scuba diving and enjoy entertaining and knowledgeable personalities.... Then Become a Backer Today!

I'm looking for funding to pick up additional hardware in order to make the show look and sound as good as possible. While we have all the scuba gear, boats, dive shops, what we’ll need to really make this project shine is quality microphones, lights, editing software, music, and a few miscellaneous items. All the gear for the season we shoot initially will be used in subsequent seasons and make producing a top-notch show for years. Our project budget is a mere $5000 which will be enough to pick up enough of the video/audio equipment we need in order to produce a quality series. Colleagues and friends from the States have graciously volunteered additional services for graphic and web design as well as editing and some post-production work.

What is "The Dive Masters" about?

Based in Roatan Isla de Bahias, Honduras, “The Dive Masters” follows the real life SCUBA diving adventures of Jason McAnear, Suzette Nelson and other DIve Professionals located in Roatan, Honduras’ West End, a mecca for Scuba divers, both new and veteran as well as visiting other islands throughout the Caribbean."The Dive Masters" takes divers and audiences into the crystal clear waters of the Caribbean to experience nature at its’ most spectacular and encounter a menagerie of undersea life including sharks, dolphins, sea turtles, rays and colorful tropical fish of all sizes. The Dive Masters’ personal lives, interaction with divers and each other is on full display. Nerves and skills are tested as viewers gain a greater understanding of the courage and strength required to be a professional Dive Master.

The recreational Scuba Diving industry has seen dramatic growth since the 1950’s, when Lloyd Bridges popularized the sport in the Television series “Sea Hunt”. Over 1 million individuals worldwide become certified scuba divers each year according to PADI, NAUI and other certifying agencies and as technology continues to evolve making scuba more accessible and affordable, this number will continue to grow. Innumerable television productions and movies have portrayed scuba diving and shown audiences the wonders of the underwater world but “The Dive Masters” will show audiences how the “average Joe” gets introduced to this amazing and thrilling environment. Scuba Instruction and Certifications are presented as brand new divers take their first dip in the ocean and veteran divers expand their skills and knowledge.

Where We'll Shoot the Series

The tropical paradise of Roatan island offers an amazing backdrop for show as we go beneath crystal clear Caribbean waters with the Dive Masters, their clients and students. With the second largest barrier reef in the world and a booming Scuba industry, The Bay Islands (Roatan, Utila and Guanaja) bring beauty and variety for filming both below and above the surface.

Working with several Dive Shops we get to see various perspectives on the life of a scuba pro and peek into the personal lives of the Dive Masters themselves. What led them to choose this career, what fulfillment do they receive and what brought them to a third world island to live and work.

Exciting Adventures Await

While Scuba diving is a highly popular “recreational” activity it is also fraught with risks and potential life threatening situations. The Dive Masters job, documented in the series is to prepare individuals with the knowledge and skills to safely participate. Fulfilling the roles of instructor, guide, counselor and friend, "The Dive Masters" showcase proper techniques, handling emergency situations underwater and respect for the environment.. Showing some classroom instruction, where new divers begin their certification and moving on to actual dive training, the Dive Masters educate audiences on a variety of Scuba certifications and specialties. Inexperienced divers are corrected on form and sometimes taken to task for unsafe or reckless practices. Life as expatriates living in a third world country adds drama and some hardships to episodes and  audiences get to experience life as a burgeoning Scuba professional in this environment as we follow  Suzette Nelson while she trains to become a Dive Master and join the Reef Gliders crew. Underwater scenes would be narrated by voice-over, pointing out good/bad form, unique occurrences and aquatic life encountered. Follow-up debriefs with the Dive Masters and their divers occur after each dive, giving opportunity for educational and comedic/dramatic moments.

While on the surface, daily operations are followed, including scheduling divers and catering to the needs of sometimes difficult vacationers, local government entities and managing the egos of the Dive Masters themselves. Testing new equipment and maintaining the gear gives audiences a better understanding of what makes Scuba diving safer and more enjoyable as well as giving a high-tech appeal to the show. New underwater cameras, dive computers are constantly improved and showcasing them provides product placement opportunities galore.

Taking responsibility for the lives of divers is inherently stressful and leads to onscreen confessions with hilarious and sometimes heated discussions among the staff concerning authority, procedures and the future of moves of the cast.

Occasional breaks from diving are also featured as the island of Roatan is explored and additional recreational activities are discovered by the staff. Zip-Lining, hiking and an occasional “Night Out on the Town” show the stress relieving activities of these professionals. Showing that living in “paradise” isn’t always what you might think, since Roatan is in a third world country the cast relate stories and adventures rarely experienced in the U.S.
