About this project
Hello & thanks for visiting my new CD
project "Jubilee Suite" Live at the Grey Eagle. This time I'm not
only the co-producer, but also the composer/performer and band leader, thus
having a vast personal interest in promoting it here on Kickstarter.
This new 2012 trio CD album release features eight tracks total, all original songs of mine, performed live in Asheville, NC at the Grey Eagle music club. My sidemen are two of the finest musicians I've had the pleasure of working with over my 20+ years of performing Jazz both in the Americas and Europe. Interestingly, all three musicians involved in this project are University Of North Texas alumni, unarguably the first jazz institution on this planet, which started handing out jazz diplomas back in the early 1940s. The musicians are:
First, John Riley (on drums) is widely accepted as one of the most influential jazz drummers of the 1980s and 1990s. It was John who replaced Mel Lewis (after Mel had passed away) in the famous Mel Lewis/Thad Jones Big Band, now known as Vanguard Jazz Orchestra. Besides appearing on dozens of jazz records (both combos and big band), John has also been a member of the music faculty at Manhattan School of Music and has published many drumming books, most of which have been steadily used by jazz schools around the Globe. John has a great sense of time and deep understanding of my music, for which I'm very grateful: a master drummer, indeed, and a humble human being.
Second, Mike McGuirk (on acoustic bass) has been a friend of mine since 1995 when we first met at the University of North Texas in Denton. He is an amazing musician with a great ear and a great sense of time as well. He has performed with some of the greatest musicians in the New York City area for the past fifteen years. His deep understanding of my harmonies give my compositions an important foundation and his sound and approach remind me of Scott LaFaro's playing (bassist who performed on Bill Evans' early trio recordings).
To make this project more attractive, New Port Line's Petr Marek, who co-produced the CD with me, invited an award winning photographer, Alzbeta Jungrova, to do a four-hour long photo shoot with my trio in Manhattan, NYC, last December. I have about 60 high resolution photos at my disposal (meaning, I own the rights to use them) and some of them will be offered as part of the awards, exclusively via Kickstarter. The 16-page booklet itself features some of the best shots Alzbeta took as well as a foreword by Petr Marek. This CD product is comparable to the best ones out there and features high resolution printing paper. The mastering was done via half-inch reel to reel tape.
Also, there will be a limited number of CDs available through Kickstarter and later on my web side in the USA/Canada region. I do not plan on selling any hard copies via online distributors in the USA, however I will offer the MP3s to major carriers, such as iTunes, Amazon, CD baby, etc. early next year. Kickstarter donors will be the first ones with access to the CD and can have them in their possession prior to Christmas 2012, which should make for a nice gift for jazz collectors out there.
Lastly, your support of this project will help finance the costs associated with this CD release. As you know, these costs are pretty high; therefore any help I can get to generate funds to recover (at least in part) funds invested into this project will be highly appreciated. Feel free to email me or ask any questions, either directly or via Kickstarter. I'll be happy to get back to you.
The official USA CD release will take place at the Czech Center New York on Manhattan on December 14th, 2012. All three of us are booked to perform two sets of my original music at this fabulous establishment, one of which used to be home to the most famous Czech composer of all time, Mr. Antonin Dvorak, during his residency in NYC. I hope to see some of you at the show! Some prices will offer reservation to this event, so make sure to read the offerings closely if you are planning on attending the show.
With shared interest in the preservation of jazz, I wish you all only the best and hope that you'll enjoy listening to this CD as much as John, Mike, and I enjoyed performing together while this was being captured.

Risks and challenges
It takes about $8,000 these days to make a good sounding (and looking) trio album. I'm asking noticeably less here just to cover some base costs. There is no risk associated with this project as it has already been completed and the CD product as well as all other gifts offered are in my possession. Thanks again for supporting modern art everyone!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
