About the “Lost and Found Series"The “Lost and Found Series” includes five documentary films, each under fifteen minutes, made by a collective of filmmakers exploring what it means to lose something and what we can potentially gain from finding it again. Among the films are stories about the vanishing of an entire town in Southern Utah, the daily life of a trash collector who lives in a train yard slum, a misplaced Thai cowboy trying to live the American dream, and a man constructing an elaborate art installation of heaven, earth and hell, from steel, concrete, glass and painted violins, in a gutted warehouse.
The first film in the series, ‘Tarkio Balloon,’ was an official selection at the 2011 Big Sky Documentary Film Festival, featured in their ‘American Spectrum: Films of the American Experience’ program and will have its Utah premiere at the Salt Lake City Film Festival. You can stream ‘Tarkio Balloon’ online for free!
The DVD and Essay Booklet (A DVD worth having in your collection)
Prior to releasing the DVD, we will release three of the five films online (Tarkio Balloon, Trash Collector, and Boomtown), free of charge. The last two documentaries will be available on DVD (Thailand Cowboy and The Gospel According to Ralphael), along with the accompanying booklet.
Why we need your help
Being independent filmmakers is tough. So far, we have fully funded the first three films (Tarkio Balloon, Trash Collector, and Thailand Cowboy) of the series and partially funded two of them (Boomtown and The Gospel According to Ralphael), out of our own pocket, while maintaining day jobs. We started this project because we believe in the films and we knew that they needed to be made.
Tarkio Balloon is finished and currently streaming online for FREE. We are now in the post-production phase of two of the films, and in production on the last two. We want to share the series with you. The wonder of crowdfunding is that the people who help you actualize your project are the very same people who will appreciate it. Since our main goal in raising Kickstarter funds is to finish all five films and deliver this series to you, we think this is a perfect arrangement. Please help us realize the ‘Lost and Found Series.’ We cannot make this happen without you.
How will the donations be used?
We have tried our best to ask only for the necessary amount to produce a series and product worth owning. We will use your donations responsibly to purchase necessary equipment and production costs to complete the last two films of the series, for printing costs for the DVD booklet and cover, and to press the DVDs. We have negotiated with excellent graphic designers, musicians and post-production assistants who are donating their time and expertise for a minimum amount.
