Dear friends and future friends,
Hi. We're My My My. If you don't know us, we're a six-piece (more or less) indie pop band from Chicago. We sound sort of like if Cat Stevens and Neko Case fronted the Airborne Toxic Event as produced by James Murphy. We like upbeat sweaty dance numbers, sing-along choruses with shouty group vocals, sincerity, and sparkly things.
A few months ago, we recorded a song, Starting to Change, even though we didn't have the money to record a full album follow-up to our successful EP Wishing You Whatever's Best, which came out in 2011. We think it's a pretty awesome song, and we wanted to get it out there into the digital universe as quickly as we could.
That said, we have a bunch of other new songs that now think it's their turn to be recorded and released into the wild -- some that we've been performing for a while (including crowd favorites such as Sirens of Soft Persuasion and Mortal Phoenix), and others that are not yet full formed. However, we lack the funds to do so, which is where you come in.
It's (Almost) All Digital
Something else we're trying out with this release is going 100% digital -- almost all of our album sales are in that format, whether through our website, iTunes, or elsewhere. Don't worry, we'll still have some great album art and liner notes that we'll include with the album, which you could print out and stick in a jewel case along with a burned CD if you're so inclined. This just seemed like a more efficient use of resources that should still keep most people happy. Our CDs aren't going to be available in stores, sure, but neither are our older albums, so that's not a big change.
We think we have some pretty cool stuff lined up for you. First, everyone who gives anything will get a download of Starting to Change in mp3 format as soon as this campaign ends. For $10, you'll also get the full upcoming album download. We'll also have a signed copy of the Starting to Change artwork in poster form available if you like gorgeous artwork (thanks to the talented Brian Mead).
We have some interesting and possibly unique rewards if you're looking for a one-of-a-kind (or two- or three- but you get the idea) experience with the band, from joining us in-studio to fashion advice and your own custom beatbox rap song (have you seen our a cappella version of Superbass?). If you think of another experience that you'd rather have with us (hey, keep it PG and within Kickstarter guidelines, OK?), then let us know and we'll see what we can set up.
Thanks for checking out our Kickstarter and our music. We'd love to hear from you whether or not you're able to contribute, and you can always stream our currently-released music on our website.
Please remember -- if this project doesn't reach full funding, we get nothing (and you get none of the rewards, either). That would make all of us sad, including this sloth.
Risks and challenges
Recording an album isn't always an easy process, it's true. However, this would be our sixth studio-recorded album (including EPs), so we've done this a few times and know how to keep things on schedule and at a reasonable cost. Plus, we already have the first song for this album in the can, so we're well on our way.
If any major delay does come up, we'll stay in close contact with our backers to let you know how we're handling the situation. We're also planning to post updates on the album's progress, including milestones like recording songs, writing/finishing additional songs, mastering, etc. Our backers are a part of the process, and we want to keep you involved all the way through.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
