Frequently Asked Questions
The bamboo hangers on the campaign page are prototypes that we have developed internally. They were fabricated out of 1/4" bamboo plywood using a laser cutter and were profiled on a CNC router using a custom jig for mounting. Additionally, the coating was applied at the end by hand. The final product will be 5/16” thick, making it up to 40% thinner than standard wood hangers (which tend to range from 7/16" to 1/2" thick), and it will have a much more consistent and professional finish.
The wheat straw hangers shown on the website are samples produced by our manufacturing partner using our production mold. We are making slight adjustments to the hook, but otherwise, these prototypes accurately represent the final wheat straw hangers.Last updated:
This is the first consumer product that we are bringing to market together, but we have strong backgrounds in product development and marketing. Tim has recently helped launch a line of patent-pending dog grooming tools that he personally developed, prototyped, and manufactured (now being outsourced), with proven success in both the U.S. and abroad. He has also worked on the development and production of high-performance automotive parts.Last updated:
Yes! Using our backer management platform, you'll be able to upgrade your reward level and get more hangers after the campaign is completed. Therefore, there is no need to cancel and select a higher reward should you decide you want to receive more hangers.Last updated:
The wheat straw version of the Mozu Hanger is made out of 40% renewable wheat straw material. Wheat straw is a plant-based material made from the stalk of wheat, which is traditionally wasted after grain is harvested. When mixed with polypropylene, it produces a strong and economical bioplastic, making it perfect for an eco-friendly and economical hanger.
The premium version of the Mozu Hanger is made of Moso bamboo (Phyllostachys edulis), a species of bamboo native to China and Taiwan that is known for its excellent physical properties. The Mozu Hanger is made of a 3-ply laminated bamboo composite using eco-friendly resins and coatings. The bamboo has a vertical grain structure and is carbonized from the kiln-drying process, which gives it its rich caramelized color.Last updated:
Upon the successful completion of our Kickstarter campaign, the hangers will be manufactured abroad. We are currently working with our trusted manufacturing partner in China who has years of experience producing hanger products for the U.S. market. We are doing this for a variety of reasons, including cost and material availability.Last updated:
In order to keep shipping costs down and to help alleviate uncertainty, we will be charging shipping separately and will be collecting it after the campaign is over and prior to shipping. This will be done through our backer management platform and actually has many benefits for both us as the creators and you as the backers. We are providing a conservative estimate for the shipping rates in the chart below assuming ocean freight for our US and Australia backers and air freight for our other international backers. This is being done for the following reasons (we think you will find that it makes a lot of sense):
A) The COVID-19 pandemic has resulted in increased shipping costs due to less freight carrier availability and increased e-commerce demand. Our hope is that by the time the Mozu Hangers are ready to ship this fall, the shipping rates will have settled back to normal, which will allow us to pass those cost savings on to our backers.
B) Because shipping is not charged on the Kickstarter platform, we can avoid some of the commissions that are tied to the campaign funds that are raised. This actually allows us charge backers significantly less overall and prevents us from having to either over-inflate shipping charges to cover these commissions or roll them into higher reward prices.
C) The Kickstarter platform has limited shipping options, so we can actually offer more options to backers based on their budget, location, and preferences. For example, we can offer an air freight option for our US backers that do not want to wait as long to receive their reward, and we don’t have to overcharge our lower 48 US backers for shipping in order to cover shipping for backers that are outside of the lower 48 states.
D) If we get enough European backers, we will actually be eligible for less-expensive ocean freight options that would otherwise be unavailable. This can result in significant cost savings that aren’t possible with flat-rate shipping charges through Kickstarter.
E) Rather than hand-picking countries that we will ship to and not offering rewards to residents of other countries (this is often done due to the lack of certainty in shipping rates to many countries), this will allow us to offer shipping to all countries, provided you are willing to pay the appropriate shipping charges. If your country is not listed, ask and we will do our best to get you an estimate from our logistics partner.
F) For those that are hesitant to support crowdfunding campaigns due to their inherent risk, by separating the shipping charge, your risk is actually lower because you only get charged shipping when the products are ready to ship, rather than paying it all up front (note that our campaign is already low risk since we already have a manufacturer lined up ready to go with the production molds already made).Last updated:
Backers should expect to receive their Mozu Hangers about 3 months after the close of a successful Kickstarter campaign (based on estimated lead times for manufacturing, shipping, and fulfillment). Since our campaign will close at the end of August, we're looking a delivery date in early December 2020.Last updated:
Yes! For our US backers that wish to receive their rewards faster, we will be offering an expedited delivery option in our backer management platform. If selected, these orders will be shipped via air freight instead of ocean freight.Last updated:
Due to the various different countries that we ship to, international backers are responsible for any and all import duties, taxes, and custom fees. You can use https://www.simplyduty.com/import-calculator/ to estimate your import duties and taxes, but your country has the final say on the actual fees.Last updated:
