What is this Kickstarter for?
Well, for as long as I can remember, people have wanted non-human style terrain. This is what I’m bringing to wargaming tables with this Kickstarter.
The core part of this Kickstarter is to bring the Ancient Worldship themed terrain to life!
The Wall Set
The first set of terrain is a wall set, to allow players to recreate boarding actions or a built up area of a city. This would be ideal for something like Zone Mortalis for Warhammer 40,000 or for Infinity players who like dense terrain.
The set is also designed with modularity in mind, allowing you to easily rearrange your terrain between (or during) games. I've included two recesses on each flat side that can house a circular rare earth magnet that has a diameter of 5mm and a height of 2mm. This is optional and you can use none, one or both slots as you see fit.
With these pieces you can replicate the interior of an alien Ancient Worldship as big or small as you like as long as you have enough pieces!
The wall set STL pack consists of:
- 2 inch wall
- 4 inch wall
- 6 inch wall
- 8 inch wall
- energy barrier for the door
- end cap pieces (to give the ends of the walls a neat finish)
Energy Barrier set
In this set you get the STL files to make the large and small barriers. The generator and the barrier pieces come separately (to make painting easier). The large energy barrier piece is roughly four inches wide while the small energy barrier piece is roughly two inches wide.
Here are some 3D printed prototypes (using a resin 3D printer):
The Void Portal
The picture below shows a sample 3D printed version of the Void Portal that I've painted up. The final version will be slightly different to what is shown below. The energy field part will be more transparent in the final version than shown below.
The Void portal pictured below was printed using a filament 3D printer:
Here are some images of the bases in use. These are the original design though. I have since adjusted the designs so that there is a hollow space underneath them to help you balance your models on uneven terrain.

But wait, there's more!
Here are some zoomed in sections of the above photo showing the details:
Each mat also come in its own carry bag as part of the cost pledge or add on cost.
What Kickstarter wouldn't be complete without add-ons? When making your pledge, simply add the value of your add ons to your pledge. Each pledge is available as an add-on for the value of the pledge. So if you want to get the mat and the walls STL files, you'd pledge $95.
If you wanted to get all the STL files available, you'd pledge $35
Want to get the mat and all the STL files? Pledge $115
What Kickstarter project wouldn't be complete without some stretch goals?
If we reach $6000, I will make a set of 3 60mm bases
If we reach $7000, I will make a set of rounded cavalry / bike style bases.
If we reach $8000, I will have a 2nd mat design commissioned for a Bio-worldship theme (I'm looking at something with an H.R. Giger influence).
If we then reach $10000, I have an Energy Generator design that I'm working on that I will tidy up for 3D printing.
All the STL files will be made available to backers immediately upon completion of backer surveys. The Mats will likely take 2-3 months to be printed and delivered.
Shipping for the gaming mats will be charged after the kickstarter once the production has been finished.
Shipping for Australians will be via Sendle and should cost you around $15.95 unless you live in a particularly remote area.
For the rest of the world, you have two options:
- option 1 - ship direct from the manufacturer to you. For the EU, US and Canada this will cost around $50-$55 USD depending on where you live. You will be responsible for any import tariffs / taxes if you chose this option
- option 2 - ship from a distribution point within the following regions. This is cheaper, but will take longer to get to you as the items will be shipping via surface freight to the various distribution points. You will *not* have to pay import duty on this option.
US, Canada, EU. Estimated costs as below:
US - $27 - $32 USD
EU - 35 - 45 Euro
Canada - TBD
STL conditions of use / licensing
The STL files part of this project are allowed to be printed by the purchaser of the files. The license does not permit the files to be shared with anyone who did not pledge / purchase the files themselves.
Risks and challenges
As with any Kickstarter project, there are risks. This is my second Kickstarter and while my previous one was successful, I did run into several issues during fulfillment (like having included shipping as part of the campaign and not properly factoring in those costs). I've learned from and adjusted how I manage that in this Kickstarter.
The only real risk at this stage is issues with the manufacturer of the gaming mat. Otherwise everything is digital files which are ready to go and I've already had test printed.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
