"Side By Side" (Songs For Kids Of All Ages) is a collection of songs that resonate with people of all ages from children to seniors. It's themes are joyful and lighthearted. The recording features stellar production value, engaging vocals and deft, smooth guitar work anchored by a fiery ukulele.
Our Story: We play and sing music of the early 20th century, music we call “Antique Pop”. We recorded our first album last year and toured throughout the US playing clubs, festivals, art galleries, children's parties, memory care centers, restaurants, theatres, house concerts and more. We've met thousands of people from all walks of life. We traveled over 40,000 miles last year sharing our songs and our love of the genre. In addition to reworking classics and discovering obscure old gems, we also write original music inspired by the era we love and the experiences we've had together on the road, side by side.
Our extensive travels have shown us that the songs we play are part of the collective consciousness of several generations. From children’s parties in NYC, to rock clubs in LA, to senior centers in the heartland, we’ve seen this music connect people and bring a sense of joy, despite age or background.
"Side By Side” is inspired by our experiences on the road and the people we’ve met. We’re making a record that captures the appeal of these songs to people of all ages, and includes original music we’ve written while on the road. We recorded the album in October 2012 at The Cooler in Kansas City, MO. We used local musicians and engineers on the recording and are now in the final stages of production. We could really use your help to complete the project.
Where You Come In: This is your chance to support an independent, creative music project. With your help, “Side By Side” will be released November 23, 2012. The funds raised will help cover the hard costs of producing the CD. Then, we plan to tour this record to bring our love of this joyful music to people of all ages all over the US. We'd love to have you along on our journey! You can follow along here: www.victorandpenny.com.

Risks and challenges
We write and perform music out of love – we don’t have a label or outside funding. We are full-time performing artists and musicians - a truly amazing thing for which we are grateful. Making music for a living is financially challenging, but we both feel that it's worth it - even though the decision to do so meant relocating, giving up our apartments, and turning down more lucrative work. This year of travel has taught us so much about ourselves, about America and about the amazing people that live here. We've seen people everywhere creating their own freedom by figuring out what it is they have to give. We've found that giving joy through music is meaningful. We're not solving the world's problems, but we do hope to make people feel a little better. With this new album, we hope to reach an even broader range of people - connecting, uplifting and entertaining them.
We used our local Kansas City talent base to make this album, choosing to spend our money in our hometown. We feel it's important to pay our professional talent pool in Kansas City professional wages. We've had to borrow money to make this album and to pay for the expenses we've incurred including studio time, labor, design, licensing fees, printing and production of the CD itself. Making an studio album is labor intensive and costly, but we feel keeping this music alive is important, and we hope you think so too.
We'll be spending the month of February in Florida as recipients of an "Escape to Create" artist residency where we will be working on writing new music. After that, we plan to hit the road again in spring 2013, promoting "Side By Side", sharing our songs and bringing Antique Pop to you!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
