DUMBO ARTS FESTIVAL 2013
SEPTEMBER 28, 2013 : 12pm - 2pm, DUMBO, Brooklyn
presented by association of Unicycle Productions LLC & re:artiste
Imagine a ferry of boisterous
bodies triumphantly arriving in Brooklyn by the river! Imagine
yourself in this colorful procession marching through the
streets of DUMBO, carrying a manifestation of your personal dream and sharing in others', dancing to
the beat and building the collective hope released through gazillion bubbles in a vivacious party. Accompanied by live music, the procession will deliver a message of harmony and joy with a healthy dash of sheer extravagance.
Meet us at Pier 1, Brooklyn Bridge Park/East River Ferry by 12pm (Old Fulton Street & Furman St) to greet the triumphant arrival of the fantastical Bubbles, follow us via Water Street, Pearl Street Triangle, Main Street, Jane's Carousel and Tobacco Warehouse where we culminate with a spectacular bubbly party.
Share your dream as you march: wear a costume, bring a sign with your personal wish, send us a one-line message with your dream (i.e. "I wish the trees could talk" or "I want to see where the river ends" - anything goes) and we will put your wishes on banners and flags!
Get a bubble gun designed by the experts: the Gazillion Bubbles Show or donate one to a child you know. Come of Andrey's costume workshop where he can help you make your own. Take as many photos of your own or let our professional photographer do the magic.
If you are a professional performance artist who moves well, knows how to engage with the audience on the street, and loves to bring wonder and hope to the world through their art - Join us! See the casting call details in our updates here. Groups welcome. Estimated time of the procession: 12pm - 2pm.
Already over 100 volunteers and artists joined. Be our next member and support us today! You don't have to pick a reward, donate any amount you choose. SHARE THIS with your friends!
on Bubbles of Hope:
"Our need to be happy and our dreams of love are the basis for the existence of human race and the most delicate connection between all beings. The importance of happiness is above religion, politics, social agendas or economic needs. Seeking our happiness collectively and focusing on the dreams of others helps us meet our own.
Bubbles of Hope is a ritual, a collective meditative act, which can strengthen our own abilities to dream, to hope and to fulfill our own personal goals. Together we are stronger, and our hopes and dreams are bigger.

ABOUT THE DIRECTOR:
Mei Ann Teo is a Singaporean theatre/film maker currently based in New York. Her professional work has toured the U.S. and international festivals including Belgium's Festival de Liege (Lyrics From Lockdown, "Truly polished, meaningful and entertaining" - NY Times), M1 Singapore Fringe Festival, Edinburgh International Fringe (MiddleFlight, "Stunning" - Scotsman), INFANT Experimental Theatre Festival in Novi Sad, Serbia, Edmonton Fringe Festival, and the Montreal World Film Festival (Not Here). She has worked with The Public Theater, Berkeley Rep, Theatre of Yugen, Crowded Fire, and the Bay Area Playwrights Festival. She is the artistic director of The Wandering Fools, whose inaugural production, Caucasian Chalk Circle, is an official selection at the Shanghai International Experimental Theatre Festival (Oct 2013). For 7 years, she was the Resident Artist/Chair of Drama at Pacific Union College where she founded a program focused on original ensemble creation.
ABOUT THE MUSIC: Trio TBD is an Avant Garde jazz trio in the loosest sense of the word. Consisting of trombonist David Whitwell, tubist Chad Walther, and percussionist Joe Tucker, Trio TBD looks to expand both the sonic palette of their chosen idiom and each individual's own instrumental color, and has been systematically altering, destroying, offending, and otherwise messing with everything from Miles Davis to Hildegard Von Bingen to John Cage, to their own original works. Coming from the unique backgrounds of both a classical upbringing and extensive contemporary experience, coupled with a healthy dose of big band and rock sensibilities, Trio TBD looks to synergistically redefine what it is to be a contemporary ensemble, and maybe have a little fun on the way. Trio TBD Mobility Project is the brain child of drummer Joe Tucker. Coming from a marching backgrounds (read: grew up in the Midwest and Texas), the trio has taken it's avant garde jazz theory to the streets. With the help of trumpeter Dan Levine and percussionist Fred Trumpy, Trio TBD hopes to shake up, distort, and otherwise reinvent yet another hallmark of traditional American music.
EVENT PRODUCER Unicycle Productions LLC:
founded and ran by Sonia Kozlova, focused primarily on street and environmentally experiential theatre, Unicycle Productions is bringing two projects to the DUMBO Arts Festival, including Bubbles of Hope and the revised version of Dealing with Ophelia by Carin Jean White with Laura Brackley (a street theatre piece recently created on Governor’s Island: Saturday, September 28th 3pm & Sunday, September 29th, 3pm.)
Risks and challenges
This project is funded primarily by Kickstarter. We have partners such as the Dumbo Arts Festival, the Gazillion Bubbles Show, Urban Stages Theatre, East River Ferry and many friends who can provide us with some logistical support.
The event is free and you are welcome to just show up. But without your support, there may be no costumes, no live music and possibly no Andrey...
We need to raise $3,500 for:
Andrey Bartenev & his team's flights: $1,700
120 Costumes freight: $1,500
Costumes prep/pumps: $300
Live band & DJ: $650
YOU CAN MAKE SURE IT ALL HAPPENS:
Contribute now any amount you can to bring this procession to life. Choose any award listed to the right. You will not be charged until we reach our goal. This is an all-or-nothing campaign. Tell your friends about it!
Everyone involved in our project is a volunteer, but without the above, the experience will not be all that it can be.
With your help: we most definitely can achieve the best result, and every single $ matters. If you are broke: $1 will do right now. If you can do more: it will go toward your own happy experience with us.
Lets build this collective dream together today and in the process you may answer your own questions or find a way toward your own dream, at the very least you will gain a few new friends.
Lets make it happen, today, together.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
