***Thanks everyone who helped me reach my goal! It took every single one of you :)***
For the past three years I have focused on drawing people from life. From pocket sized drawings of friends at their most natural..
To large scale watercolors of willing participants..
My work takes an interest in the people of today, how they look, behave, and interact with the world around them. Check out my website to see more examples.
This year I'm exploring a new approach to creating my images. I am taking the small quick drawings I've done from life and transforming them into large wall collages (like shown in the video).
In a way I feel like I'm creating a new life for the image, one that may be more unique and autonomous than the original drawing.
This summer I have the wonderful opportunity to show these pieces in one of the nicest spaces in Portland. This will be a big step in my artistic career, and will definitely make an impact on my practice.
Being an Art teacher for a nonprofit program for kids k-5 is a blast, but it hardly gives me enough to invest in large projects such as this. With your help I'll be able create an engaging body of work and show it in the space it deserves! Any amount you can contribute is greatly appreciated :)
I want to make about 10 pieces specifically for this show. I like to use Arches Cold Press 140 lb Watercolor paper, in a 44 1/2" x 10 yard roll. Each piece will require about 1/2 a roll of paper, as well as styrofoam backing, and the appropriate hardware.
5 Rolls of paper: $750
Styrofoam & Hardware: About $150
Gouache/Ink: About $100
Everyone who contributes will receive a unique paper pin.
$10 - Unique Paper Pin
Since not every painting is a masterpiece, I am often left with scraps of beautiful colors and brushstrokes. I'm using these scraps to create a token of my appreciation that you can wear and enjoy.
$25 - Pastel Study
Pastel studies are a fun and interesting way to help me determine the final colors of the collage from the black and white drawing. Those who donate $25 or more* will receive a 5.5"x8".5" pastel study that was used to help realize the work in this show.
$50 - Show Catalog & Original 5.5"x8.5" ink drawing
The show catalog will be an expansion of the show. It will include full color images of the finished pieces and of the space, as well as additional drawings that have informed this body of work. There will be a Thank You page in each catalog listing those who have contributed $50 or more.
$100 - 9"x12" Ink Drawing
Own an original 9"x12" ink drawing that I have created from life. The drawings will be from this year and could be a drawing that one of the collages is based off of.
Rewards other than the showcard, unique paper pin, or original drawing will be delivered after all pieces are finished and installed.
*Those who gave $100 will also receive a pastel study, even though it is not listed in the rewards. This is because I added the pastel study after I launched my project, and can no longer edit the details. Feel free to message me if you have any question regarding rewards.
Where is the show & how long will the show be up for?
My work will be exhibited in The Littman for the entire month of July.
How many pieces will I show?
I will be showing approximately 10 pieces. I hope to make more than ten so that I can have a selection to choose from.
How long will each piece take to complete?
Each piece takes more or less than a week to make. This depends on how elaborate the drawing is, as well as the size of the finished piece.
Will the work be for sale?
Yes, starting at $500. I am offering all pieces at a flat rate of $500 for those who are inquiring via kickstarter.
If my project gets funded I will be maintaining a process blog that keeps all of you updated via weekly photos, videos, and writing. I look forward to starting this project! Message me if you have any questions or comments. Feel free to check out my website to get a better idea of my work. Thanks!
