Update #76

Update # 76 ......waiting for final solution.

 hello Everyone,

Again I must apologize for the lapse in updates. I am still waiting for the remainder of the product to be delivered so that I can resume shipping as normal. The latest delay is at least partly my own fault as I missed adding one item ( the count for the Aenglish Shields sprue ) into the final count email to Ed on November 4th. As per Ed's last update to me on the 10th of December they were trying to finish counting and sorting the Hordesmen torsos before shipping out that box, which would allow more fulfillment to take place.

I understand that it is very confusing to follow which figures are the hold up and which are not. It is very difficult for me to keep up with myself. The reason being is that we never get the full count ordered in any one shipment. So we tend to run out of items in staggered intervals.

Ed does have the final count of items needed and has informed me that they are working on finishing the production, sorting, and counting.

To give some perspective as to the progress of fulfillment we have shipped 579 rewards packages out of the 759 total pledges. We are within sight of the end but it is still down to the delivery of the final quantities of items needed to finish fulfillment and my ability to pay for the next increase in postage cost of the remainder of packages yet to ship.

I understand that many of you are VERY angry and let down. I won't deny responsibility, but I am afraid that all I can do is apologize and try to finish fulfilling on my promises as I am able to do so. Suffice it to say that my misery is manifold. This kickstarter has ruined my life, my finances, and my business. It has all but totally killed my will to produce new art. It has strained my relationships with my family and friends and business colleagues. It only appeared to be profitable and never was. I have spent many thousands of dollars from what little profits my regular business has been able to eek out over the last 12 months, trying to settle dilemmas that relate to the fulfillment and production issues of this project.

This project was supposed to be the great new beginning for my business and instead it has been a very slow and painful death. You have my humblest apologies for the delays, and frustrations. In the next 4 days I expect to be able to give one final update as to the progress of production and the projected time of delivery for final fulfillment.

  For now,

   tre'

Ed and tre as the heads of your respective businesses I think sticking to your commitments and your caring about the final product and showing the behind the scenes has been an enlightening part based on what dreams may come. Thanks for showing me personally. I speak only for myself.

Is it possible to monetize the miscasts? Selling as "as is, miscast" may help recover some cost (which is better than literally disposing of them and losing 100%). For example, I'd love to fill an extra rank out by converting models by hand using putty and spare parts from my horde of bits accumulated over 15 years of miniature gaming.

The trade off here is a potential hit on standard sales but in my opinion there really wouldn't be a huge of crossover between scratch build fodder and standard miniature purchases. Even if you only recovered 10% of your losses you're still farther ahead than yesterday.

I'm glad. We are trying but as I said we have to let the molds sit a looong time per spin to get good figures. It's hard on everyone I know but we are trying hard.

I got one of the recent batches, last month, and they look great. Also, I tend to modify minis anyway. So put me down for a bag of miscasts should they become available.

On another note: I was concerned about the no longer nude varp, but these turned out really cool. They are very good looking figs.

p.s. thanks Tre and Ed for all the hard work :)

    6. Edfortae.small

Creator Edward Fortae on January 4

Those are not miscast but the extras required to get the right miners from mixing different figures in the same mold.

If 100 figures were deemed no good then 100 extra good figures of another type could be made and wasted.

Example: 500 of a and 500 of b are cast. Say 200 are considered miscast due to tabs being bent etc. we must then cast another 200 of each period.

The problem then is who pays for those. No one they are thrown out. This has been a big part of the delays also. Some are very close to the same and trying to go through all those parts takes time.

Now imagine 6 figures in a mold and needing 500+. That's several spins. Add the spruces etc. each being low in number. Then the fact the molds are bowed and us needing to keep them in longer. We had put in a combined total of 500 hours to get where we are from the last list we had gotten.

500 hours is a long long time and yes to get good stuff that is what we are doing now.

      Hi Tre,

Hope all is well. After reading your recent post I became motivated to pass some encouragement your way. First of all, your miniatures are absolutely amazing. I have been table-top gaming for over 25 years now and I have seen alot of miniatures, good and bad. You capture a certain aethetic that I am a huge fan of. I like that you balance fantasy/true scale perfectly. Your proportions are not too cartoony and they have a beautiful balance and composition. That beings said, you have a God given gift that should always be shared. Do not get worked up over all of the negative comments. No one ever became successful by quitting. This may initially have been a disaster but you must learn from these mistakes, dust yourself off and push on. You have a wealth of information on issues you will need to improve. I love your sculpts and will continue to back your talent as long as you are in the business. Get your butt in gear and make some more Gynnade Krigare for me!!!

I would buy a bag too. How bad are they miscast? Would it take some moderate sculpting to fix?

    9. Edfortae.small

Creator Edward Fortae on January 3

We have thrown out 1000ands of parts figures etc. so yes they probably will be.

    10. Image-263882-full.small

Creator Peter Fulop on January 3

Are all those just going to be thrown away?
      How much for a bag?
Seriously, if Tre is alright with it I'd buy a few (well, depending on the price of course). You can split the money as you guys deem appropriate.

Hey everyone. My employee Paula made a point I sounded negative on this post which was not my intent. I tried to explain that.

I'm not good with posts and most people know I'm right to the point. I was trying to explain why things were slower on our end and show it's not just miscast a etc.

Quality at this point is tricky and slower which is what we want. We are working on a tight rope here as well and I wanted to try and offer some technical insight Tre is not 100% aware of.

You have to remember this is a year old system to date with loads of changes and growth since this project started. If you or anyone has questions please feel free to ask me.

Sorry again if this sounded negative it was not the intention.
      Ed

Ok let me try and show you the problems. We are suffering from this more than anyone can even dream and honestly I'm in need of someone seeing issues for once.

Any other company out there would not be doing what I'm trying to do right now. In fact I feel like I'm going beyond and above.

      Here are some pictures http://i1278.photobucket.com/albums/y506/trollforged/problems/rejected-minis.jpg
      http://i1278.photobucket.com/albums/y506/trollforged/problems/mold-compare.jpg
      http://i1278.photobucket.com/albums/y506/trollforged/problems/bad-mold.jpg
      http://i1278.photobucket.com/albums/y506/trollforged/problems/good-mold.jpg

If you look at these you see the molds of tres that are so old due to the limited number of parts vs normal molds. The cavities produce good casts if we sit on them for the material to be very hard. If we open the spin caster they peel open and produce split or miss cast parts.

The other pic is all the extra casts produced to generate enough figures short. This is all waste we loose. This happens every time.

I'm not going to go into any more details as I'd rather not even begin to further contribute to negative issues but we are trying very, very hard. I can only work with what we have.
      Ed

Rob, yep that is usually the case with the sprue parts that are rejected.

I can only speak for myself Tre but I have no reason to think the problems were due to lackadaisical effort or malign will. As such I find myself completely unable to get upset that my toys are late. Tre, your sculpts are wonderful and you (at least seem like) are a great guy. RBG's reputation is still solid imo and I have no hesitation in recommending them to others. If only for the following reason, believe that I have no desire to be party to RBG's demise and as such you still have my good will and business. I need more evil viking dudes Tre, so you better stick around!

Was the problem in the end casting in multi-part resin? If all 5 Helvakt heads are cast on the one sprue and one is cast poorly the entire sprue is rejected and that's 5 models you can't send out? Coupled with the fact that each model has legs, a torso, heads, weapons and shields and each seperate component has the potential to be miscast cause the whole model to sit unposted waiting for the final components?

In my head that appears to be the problem. Am I on the right track?

Hi Tre, chin up, you're almost finished with this kickstarter!
I do hope you'll continue. At least after all this is over you should have a better idea of all the costs (and other pitfalls) involved, so future projects should go more smoothly. Especially if you limit them to relatively few minis.

I supported for 2 reasons (on both KS's)
To get some real quality miniatures,
and to help you get your business rolling.
please take a couple of weeks when it is all done, and time to reflect before you throw in the towel.

I really want to see you continue.

you might be better with smaller projects, like oath sworn, or do something similar to Death Kingdom, release a model as a limited run resin, to help fund the metal/plastic range of the same model.

There has to be some middle ground where you can keep going.

I went in big on both KS, and as a result am having to wait ages to get my stuff. Which is a drag, but complaining isn't going to help. Evidently.

But I also backed them to support your business and see you expand the line. Delays are one thing, and I'll hang on while you get your groove back. But if Red Box Games gets shut down over this, _then_ I'll be angry and let down.

fwiw-At the beginning of KS1 I owned 0 RBG minis. Since then I've ebayed around 4 to 5 hundred minis from other companies in favor of Tre's RBG fantasy line. I'll keep buying as long as they're available.

579 out of 759 sounds like the end is in sight. If I read you correctly all you're missing is shields for the Aenglish? Is there a way you could substitute the shields, or do you consider this a relatively minor delay? I am comfortable receiving my models without shields. I love painting faces and designs on old citadel round shields anyway. I am also cool with chipping in for shipping just invoice me the amount.

Man I hope RBG kicks on. If it will make you feel better I could post some of the gobbo's and Hogsquasher I painted up a while back. I love how they turned out. Top models!

I really, really, really hope that you can bounce back from this setback. You're my favorite miniature sculptor by far. In my oppinion the flaw of RGB is that every one miniature company doesn't use the same scale :) (and that I didn't buy the original Belegast and Yrsa sculpts when they where available).

It's a shame that this kickstarter is such a hassle for you. I wasn't in there for the cheap models, but for great looking ones. The main hassle that I've seen with the fullfilment of this kickstarter is logistics. And maybe you a bit to perfectionistic. What you have delivered is top notch and let noone tell you otherwise.

As someone once told me in the music business: "You are the talent. Don't let people who aren't the talent get you down. The business isn't fair, and is in fact brutal and only the luckiest of the hard workers survive. But you get to create and share your art for a living, which is just a dream for most people."

Just because KS showed how awful things can be, you had a business before you tried it, and you will have one after. Building slowly may not be fun, but it's building. And you gained some new fans who will stick with you. We all learned a lot through these two KS you've run, and the one lesson that will last is that you are a kickass sculptor.

I'm one of those as yet uncompleted pledges. Feeling not an iota of anger. I pledged because the minis are staggeringly gorgeous, your talents prodigious, and trying some of the much praised trolleys would be a bonus.
I'd hope this is not a slow death for Red Box, but merely a painful lull and learning experience that allows Red Box and Trollforge a slow but steady boost towards something more glorious.

I think when you'll finally complete this work all small pieces will come together and It will be really new beginning for you.
I'll support you and I know many others who will. And I'm saying this participating in both your KS and supporting you from the start.

Sorry to hear that Tre. I believe you will get back up. Maybe Redbox games is done but you are a talented sculptor who ironically will probably be more in demand now once your desire to sculpt returns because of Kickstarter and all the new miniatures that people need sculpted. I know I will back any project that has you on board as a sculptor.
