Going BEYOND THE DIVIDE Worldwide!

Posted by Jan Selby (Creator)

Hello dear backers!!

Your support of BEYOND THE DIVIDE is paying off. Here’s a brief update of how the film is touching lives around the world. Thank you for your support!

From Utah to Jakarta: Film Festival News

BEYOND THE DIVIDE premiered in September at DOCUTAH in St. George, UT! The film screened three times during the festival and then twice at the “Best of the Fest” in nearby Mesquite, NV. Audiences were moved by the story and it followed up with inspiring conversations with veterans in particular.

A few weeks later, audiences at the Global Peace Film Festival in Orlando, FL enjoyed two screenings at Rollins College and Valencia College. Director/Producer Jan Selby had the opportunity to speak on filmmaker panels at each festival about the potential for films to make a difference in the world. BEYOND THE DIVIDE was also shown internationally for the first time at the Film Festival for Peace, Inspiration, and Equality in Jakarta, Indonesia and the A Film for Peace Festival in Trieste, Italy.

Closer to home, BEYOND THE DIVIDE will screen at the Flyway Film Festival in Pepin, WI. Less than 90 minutes from Saint Paul, our Twin Cities friends are encouraged to attend the October 26th 12pm showing at Villa Bellezza Gallery. More information about the festival and tickets is available here.

We’re also happy to announce that BEYOND THE DIVIDE was awarded an honorable mention by the Santa Monica Independent Film Festival (CA). We continue to submit the film to festivals and expect additional screenings in 2015. We hope you can attend a festival screening!

Coast-to-Coast: Promoting Peace Education

We are extremely excited that BEYOND THE DIVIDE will screen on October 17th at the 2014 Peace and Justice Studies Association (PJSA) Annual Conference at the University of San Diego. This year’s theme is “Courageous Presence: Shifting Stories and Practices of Peace”. Jan will attend to discuss the film along with very special guests and film principals, Dan Gallagher and Betsy Mulligan-Dague. We are grateful to the PJSA and the Peace Resource Center of San Diego who made it possible for Jan, Dan and Betsy to attend the conference.

The PJSA is dedicated to bringing together academics, K-12 teachers and grassroots activists to explore alternatives to violence and to share visions and strategies for peacebuilding, social justice, and social change. It also serves as a professional association for scholars in the field of peace and conflict resolution studies. More than 350 members from around the country are expected to attend. What a wonderful opportunity to connect with people who are already working to promote peace.

The same weekend, the NOVA Institute for Public Service Peace will host “Teaching about Global Conflict and Peacebuilding: A Seminar for Community Colleges” October 17-20th in Alexandria, VA. Part of the event is also co-sponsored by the U.S. Institute of Peace. This seminar, designed by consultant David J. Smith, is held to support community college faculty and administrators as they strive to develop relevant and innovative approaches to teaching about global conflict and peacebuilding. Jan, Betsy, and Dan will be dropping into the seminar via Skype following a screening of BEYOND THE DIVIDE to participate in a Q&A session with participants.

Check Out Our New Website!

Over the last few months, our team has been working on a new website for BEYOND THE DIVIDE! See the beautiful new site here. This is just phase one – look for updates soon as we add exciting new ways to bring the film to your community in theaters or to any venue you choose. We’ll also be expanding the online store section. Please share it with your friends as we spread the word about the power of going beyond the divide!

It is because of your generous support that we are able to touch lives around the world. We could not do it without you! Thank you!
