MY MOTHER'S WHAT...?!
MY MOTHER'S LESBIAN JEWISH WICCAN WEDDING! The musical theatre sensation that wowed audiences in Toronto Fringe, then went on to a successful commercial run at the Panasonic Theatre (seen by over 65,000 people), and winner of "Most Promising New Musical" at NYMF is heading to the West Coast. We're mounting the show as a staged reading/workshop as part of the Festival of New American Musicals, with plans for a fully realized production to follow.
This hilarious and heartfelt true story by David Hein and Irene Sankoff celebrates love in all its forms! MMLJWW will make you laugh, cry, and realize that nothing is impossible.
Set against the backdrop of the legalization of same-sex marriage in Canada, the piece is timely for issues facing the LGBT community in California, and across the US. Our hope is to entertain, while sharing a good message. Theatre can be entertaining, AND help raise awareness to MAKE A DIFFERENCE in the world. Our goal is to do just that.
WINNER! Most Promising Musical, and Best Book (NYMF). MMLJWW was also recently nominated for Best Comedic Play in the Canadian Comedy Awards.
WHO ARE WE?
Our producers are Nathan Gardner, Kate Sullivan Gibbens, and Topher Rhys. Together their resumes hold directing, and producing credits across California, and the nation. We're a young, ambitious bunch and are dedicated to building an Off-Broadway brand unique to Los Angeles, and to bring audiences the newest, and exciting works in productions that can entertain AND make a difference!
Our writers are David Hein and Irene Sankoff. As they did in the original production, David and Irene will be joining us in Los Angeles to star in the show.
Our creative team is being assembled. Backers will receive the latest updates before the general public!
WORKSHOP AND BEYOND
We believe that MMLJWW has what it takes to succeed in the "big time." This kickstarter will help fund the costs of the initial workshop, which will be used to generate interest and buzz for our full production to follow. We love shows that are fun, entertaining, and have a message... MMLJWW will send audiences out smiling, and thinking.
The workshop is part of the Festival for New American Musicals' First Look program, which highlights new works from across North America. It's a great opportunity for us to introduce this wonderful show to LA, and generate buzz leading up to the show's official full production.
This is your chance to be a part of introducing an exciting, ORIGINAL new musical to west coast audiences, and get on the bandwagon for our full production later!
We hope you'll join the "wedding party," and come with us on this exciting, and fun journey.
