The holidays should indeed be for everyone, including for those who like it really different, so we have a new December Fair coming to town… offering a Steampunk, Dreadpunk and Pirate holiday experience.
We still live in a standardized world where everyone is pressured to conform to what is "normal", and the Christmas time is a moment when that is especially true… There are holiday parties and boutiques everywhere, but they are all about the repetitive glitter of silver, gold, white and mistletoe. That’s all great, for those who love it, but what if that is not really your kind of party?
We know that feeling and that is why we decided to have a very special and different December Fair… but one especially made for the communities of Dreadpunk, Steampunk, Gothic, Pirates and Horror of Southern California.
So… Do you want Steampunk ornaments for your Christmas Tree? What about octopus bowls for your morning oatmeal? Are you thinking about having some nice looking skull stockings to hang by the chimney? Or maybe you need a new home decore that will bring you joy year-round. We’re here for you.
This campaign is to ask all of you who dream of spooky holidays to be part of a brand new annual holiday fair and help us make A Dreadpunk Holiday one of the most popular new December fairs in the Los Angeles area. The funds that we raise will help us cover the expenses for fun activity supplies, having costume characters at the fair, wrapping free Christmas gifts, transporting everything to and from the event, cleaning up after the fair (yes, we’re dark but responsible), among other needs that we must cover to make this fair an annual tradition and not just a one year event.
We have an attractive offer of original rewards for the backers, but we must say that the rewards are just the beginning of what we will offer… the rest you will have to see for yourself at our fair… If you dare, that is!
Ebenezer Scrooge will be your creepy and somewhat charming host, welcoming you into the fair, where a diverse group of local artists and small businesses will come together for one spooky December Dreadpunk Fair.
Thank you and we hope to see Ebenezer Scrooge welcoming you at our fair!
Please share this campaign with your friends who may also want to have a Dreadpunk Holiday celebration.
Q: "Can I wear a costume?"
A: We definitely encourage people to get into the spirit and wear their spookiest attire.
Q: "What kind of beverages are available?"
A: Water, soda, coffee & alcoholic drinks for those 21 & older. However, you MUST buy drink tickets on the Dreadpunk Holiday website or at the Horrific Homes & Gardens booth.
Q: "Will there be food available?"
A: Yes, Flatiron Catering will have food available for purchase
Q: "Are kids allowed?"
A: Yes, this is a family friendly event. Some parts may be scary for younger children though.
Q: "What kind of activities will be happening at the event?"
A: We are still adding more activities and things to see and do for the event. The best way to stay up to date is by clicking Going on our Facebook page or signing up for our newsletter.
Q: " What happens if you don't meet your Kickstarter goals?"
A: The event is happening rather the campaign is successful or not. The kickstarter campaign helps us cover expenses now so that we can ensure that we are bringing to you a fantastic event.
Risks and challenges
While we do not identify risks, we are prepared to deal with the following potential challenges:
The Weather. Since no one can predict what the weather will be like, instead of just relying on the hope of having good weather, we have organized a beautiful venue with a grand bay and natural lighting, so that, rain or shine, the Iron Room in any weather is the perfect place for a Dreadpunk Holiday.
Star Wars. This is opening weekend for a movie with very loyal fans. But the most loyal fans will be at the very first showing and on Friday. We already have over 200 Guests attending and we expect that number to grow as the event date gets closer.
Parking. Yes, Los Angeles County is one of the hardest places to find street parking but our location is in Mid-City, an area that is a mix of both homes and businesses. During the day, street parking is not nearly as difficult. The best parking is west and east of Pico blvd.
Shoppers. Our plan was designed to be appealing to a variety of visitors and shoppers. Our artists include Steampunk, Gothic, Horror, Piracy and artist work for those who just love a little whimsical fun in their home and lives.
Getting the word out. This is our biggest challenge. We’re not a big movie studio or a nationally recognized company. We’re a small business in Southern California that believes all artists and small businesses as well as those who love dark & spooky should have a December event for spooky celebrating. From the very beginning, this event was created to help small businesses and artists.
The Mystery Elephant Gift Game & Artists Gallery Viewing helps get the word out about artists who were not able to be vendors at the fair and encourages local dining, shopping & social gatherings at places such as cafes and museums. A Dreadpunk Holiday is all about supporting each other in every aspect. By sharing our Kickstarter Campaign, you can also help us to get the word out.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
