"Too Licky" is about two sister’s journey to find the “just right” rescue dog for their family. Gigi and Ryan searched high and low to find the “right” dog.
After months and months of searching they found her, the “just right” rescue – Sugar.
Sugar came from a shelter. The first two years of her life are unknown. The only 'knowns' are that Sugar and her three puppies were found as strays, were taken to a rural animal shelter, fostered by a volunteer and all four adopted into loving homes.
Sugar’s story isn’t over yet. It’s more like the bumper sticker, “who rescued who?”
Once the book is available for sale on Amazon, HALF the proceeds from each book sale will go to help other rescue dogs like Sugar find their forever home.
Please join us in helping dogs like Sugar by purchasing a book, adopting a rescue or, both!
"Too Licky" is for any dog lover and anyone interested in making a difference in the lives of shelter dogs.
Once "Too Licky" is available on Amazon, HALF of book proceeds will be given away to rescue and bully breed advocacy organizations.
Gigi and Ryan lived in California.
One day their mom and dad said, “Guess what? We are moving to Florida AND we are getting a dog!”
Of course, Gigi and Ryan only heard “we are getting a dog!”
The family had already had the perfect rescue, Nova, who had passed away when Gigi and Ryan were two. Because Nova had been so “perfect,” the family began tossing out characteristics of what their next dog should have – or, not have.
Since Gigi and Ryan were only 4 at the time, having a dog that wasn’t ‘nippy’ was always ranked high. Then, other characteristics were added to the list; too small, too big, too serious, too…all of which they wrote down in a book.
After Gigi and Ryan had settled into their new Florida home, Gigi and Ryan’s homemade book settled in among other books and was forgotten.
A year or so later, the family began their search for the perfect dog. We were connected with a woman named Cynthia who is passionate about connecting families with rescue dogs.
A few weeks into the search, we brought home Sugar…
Their first book title was “Too Nippy.” However, after working with their friend Cynthia, an avid rescue dog advocate, she pointed out the negative connotation with the word “nippy” and that it’s often associated with certain breeds.
We are grateful for her experience and guidance and helping raise our own awareness of the discrimination certain breeds face.
It was her suggestion to change the title to “Too Licky.” The title is in honor of one of her beloved rescues, Trucker, who LOVED to lick. AND, Trucker (with his great, big, juicy tongue) is whom she used as inspiration for the cover image of “Too Licky.”
Cynthia is illustrating the dogs in the book exaggerating their features in a very fun and playful way.
Cynthia Inks is an incredible artist and illustrator. Here is a sample of her amazing work:
*Inside scoop (pun intended!) … Cynthia Inks is also the friend that helped Gigi & Ryan find their fursister, Sugar.
The copy was written by Gigi and Ryan Giles and edited by Michelle Lievense.
Our illustrator, Cynthia Inks, had the PAWsome idea of requesting rescue dog lovers submit pictures of their rescues to be featured in "Too Licky." The response was overwhelming. So much so, we added 10 additional categories to the book! We are please to announce the rescues that will be featured as illustrations in "Too Licky":
In addition their illustration, we will also feature the rescue story of each of these beautiful, PAWsome pups!

Risks and challenges
We know our friends and family will be great supporters. However, our greatest challenge is reaching rescue dog lovers and rescue organizations so they are aware of “Too Licky.” We are reaching out and contacting as many organizations as possible.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
