We all have kitchen knives. And we all struggle to find a place to keep them while using them. Well, not anymore.
Knife Buddy is the world’s first and most versatile stand that can be used for clean as well as dirty kitchen knives, giving easy access to the different kinds of kitchen knives you commonly used during prepping. It consists of a removable top cover that snugly fits on a bottom collection tray. The cover has slots to conveniently place your knives, thus keeping them safe, creating less mess on the countertop, and accessible at an arm’s length when needed.
Knife Buddy is Dishwasher Safe and made of food-grade, BPA Free materials.
Knife Buddy is
- Made of certified food-grade materials
- Scratch-resistant. It is made of same material as plastic cutting boards, which take way more knife action on it while chopping
- Dishwasher Safe
The most common place to keep your kitchen knives while in use is either on top of the cutting board, or on the countertop. This not only creates a mess and takes up that important working space, but is also unsafe.
The fit between the removable top cover and the bottom tray is just right, so as to give enough tightness to not lift up when taking out the knives from the Knife Buddy and also allow you to conveniently separate the two parts for cleaning.
Knife Buddy comes in extremely handy when using more than one knife for prepping food. Although it has 3 slots and optimal for 3 knives, its design is so versatile that you can park more than 3 knives in it. Its symmetric design also allows you to place and access the knives from both directions.
Let's look at some use cases of how the Knife Buddy can help you.
Use Case: Accessing knives from one side.
Use Case: Accessing knives from both sides.
The top removable cover separates from the bottom tray so you can throw them in the Dishwasher or wash by hand.
KNIFE BUDDY - PRODUCT DIMENSIONS
KNIFE BUDDY DEVELOPMENT STORY
As part of prepping food, we all use various kind of knives to cut veggies and meat - whether it is a Chef's knife, Utility knife, Paring knife, Santoku knife, Slicing knife, Boning knife, or Serrated knife. But the way we keep the knives close to us, while prepping is the same - we either put it on the cutting board, or on the countertop. And using more than one knife in the process makes the entire process very messy and unsafe and we are left with less room to work with. We performed a thorough search in the market to find a knife stand that could be used to place dirty knives being used while prepping. We couldn't find any! All we could see are knife blocks, but they were only for storing clean knives. So we took in on ourselves to come up with a functional design of a knife stand that could be used during the prepping process. We teamed up with a local Industrial Design house - ANDESIGN to take on this challenge.
After studying hundreds of knives, researching use cases - studying how people use knives while prepping, the team came up with many ideas in the form of sketches on what a knife holder would look like.
After testing the various designs, we finally honed in on the one we were confident would work! We took advantage of modern technology and used several versions of the 3D printed parts to test the product out before we got to the point of saying - YES, THIS IS IT!

WHO WE ARE AND WHAT IS OUR MOTTO
OUR TRACK RECORD ON KICKSTARTER
We would like to sincerely thank the following people who helped us immensely in the creation of both the Knife Buddy and this campaign page.
1. Photography and Video: Our good friend and excellent photographer, Alfonso Mercado from Alfonso Mercado Studios. He spent countless days and late nights taking pictures, and making the campaign video. Also, thank you to Alfonso's friends who were kind enough to let us use their kitchen to shoot the pictures and the video.
2. Video Narration: Our very good friend and neighbor, Judy Brzezinski, who accepted our proposal to do the narration for the video without any hesitation, although being a full-time mom : )
3. Knife Buddy Design: Andrew Namminga and his design team from ANDESIGN in Newport Beach, CA who helped us taking the Knife Buddy from concept to final design.
4. Knife Buddy Packaging Design: Leonard Wozniak from Leonard Wozniak Design in Los Angeles, CA. He worked very hard in designing not only our previous product, the ChopTainer, but also the packaging for our recent products, including the Knife Buddy.
Risks and challenges
We have 2 of 2 successful Kickstarter campaigns so far under our belt – The Snug Utensil Clips and the ChopTainer Cutting Board Companion. The Snugs were successfully delivered to our backers [almost] on time and Amazon and Bed, Bath and Beyond have been selling them for over a year now. ChopTainer also successfully got funded on Oct 1, 2015 and is so far before time in its manufacturing milestones.
We are pretty confident about the Knife Buddy project. We have gone through intensive design iterations and many prototypes to gain confidence in what the final product should come out to be.
ABOUT OUR FACTORY
We have a competent factory already working with us, and waiting for the green light to go ahead with the molds followed by the actual parts production. They have been long time leaders in manufacturing kitchen tools and medical devices for worldwide customers and experts in food-grade plastic and rubber.
GENERAL MANUFACTURING RISKS
Having said the above, we would be naive in assuming nothing could go wrong. Manufacturing a new product always carries some risks, including issues with final mold (or finish), which might not come out 100% as intended. But having years of career experience in mechanical design and manufacturing of Aerospace products, we always keep risk mitigation plans in place. So please rest assured, the Knife Buddy is in good hands! : )
