PLEASE CONTRIBUTE NOW to this unique artistic endeavor:
Boxer Story is a 20-minute animated film about an up-and-coming boxer. It goes like this…
It's New Orleans, 1974, and the reigning cruiserweight champion is a star! He’s a local guy named Thunderpaws Magee—a spoiled prima donna who’s absolutely ruthless in the ring. He's crippled and humiliated every contender so far... (play video).
And then there’s Twomey Martin, the up-and-coming fighter who wants more than anything to be taken seriously. But… you see… there’s a little problem with that. There’s something “funny” about Twomey Martin… (play video)
They’re punch lines. Get it? You hit him, you hear a punch line. So despite Twomey’s desire to be taken seriously, all his fights turn into comedy routines.
So what we’ve got here is your typical underdog story about boxing, with a dark, comical twist. What I’m going for is a kind of Triplets of Bellville meets Mean Streets.
The main character, Twomey Martin, has been with me a long time. His first appearance was in a comic strip I did for an Austin publication called Moko back in 1992. I came up with this story for him several years later and it’s been kind of percolating and growing ever since.
So- PLEASE CONTRIBUTE NOW and help me finish this unique and personal film.
I’ve been a professional animator for over sixteen years. My work can be seen in the feature films Space Jam, Anastasia, Quest For Camelot, Prince of Egypt, and I was a lead animator on A Scanner Darkly. I’ve also written and directed twelve award-winning animated shorts. But this is the film I’ve been wanting to make since I first started making films. It’s a story that I am passionate about with characters that are very dear to my heart. Because of kickstarter and your amazing generosity Twomey is finally getting his shot at a title fight. So Twomey thanks you, and I thank you!
The money I raise will go towards hiring a crew of animators to help me finish the rough animation from start to finish. I also plan to recruit an accomplished sound designer and compensate the amazing cast of voice actors who have already given me stellar performances. And I'd like to pay Graham Reynolds for his incredible music.
Please have a look at the other work-in-progress videos I’ve posted below, and follow the movie's progress at http://boxerstory.tumblr.com/
