About a year ago, Rich and Dan had a conversation about a problem every man faces. Why isn’t there an easier way to buy stylish shirts online? Designer brands have different sizing standards, so shopping for a new brand often ends with the hassle of return shipping. Custom shirts are an option, but frankly the choices are boring. Tailors aren’t designers, and most custom shirts come from a cookie cutter – the same design with different fabrics.
Rich and Dan knew how they wanted the business to work: make it easy for people to get custom-fit shirts online, and deliver a luxury product at an affordable price point. But they also realized that design is the cornerstone of the concept. Then Rich thought of the man who had designed his favorite custom shirts, Peyman Umay.
For three years, award-winning designer Peyman Umay has been designing bespoke clothes for an exclusive clientele – celebrities, television personalities and other people who need to stand out from the crowd. Peyman makes clothes that are unique, but with a classic and sophisticated design vocabulary. Together, we founded BEYLER & TÜRK to change how men buy clothes. Here’s how we’re doing it:
Made-to-measure fit, expert design
Our shirts are made-to-measure for the individual. But we’re a fashion brand, not a custom tailor shop. Our creative director, Peyman Umay, designs each shirt. The hallmark of our style is classic with an edge – traditional craftsmanship with attention to the little details that exude sophistication. We envision an online experience that is like shopping at the best boutiques, with a curated selection of the latest fashions.
Luxury from fabric to finish
We start with the finest Aegean cotton fabrics from Turkey. Our designs incorporate little details and finishing touches that you won’t find elsewhere, because they’re just too expensive or complicated to produce. Our manufacturing line is staffed with craftsmen that work to the highest standards. BEYLER & TÜRK shirts feature high stitch counts (a minimum of 18 stitches per inch), sewn interlinings and other construction elements that ensure you’ll be wearing them for years.
Delivered straight to you at an exceptional price
When you buy a shirt from a typical brand, you’re paying for 20% shirt and 80% retail and marketing. We sell direct to the consumer, so the price you’re paying goes straight to where it belongs – luxury fabrics and premium craftsmanship. We spend more on fabric than most shirt brands spend on the entire shirt, including manufacturing! For most of the big brands, even those that claim to be “premium,” the fabric cost is 2-3% of the retail price you pay. For us, it’s more like 20%. Yes it costs us more, but the result is more value for you.
Wait a second. How can I order a custom shirt online?
BEYLER & TÜRK will make online ordering of a custom shirt as easy as buying a ready-made shirt. In fact it’s even more convenient, because you don’t need to figure out what size is right for you, and a perfect fit means there’s no hassle of returns. Here’s how it works…
Step 1: Choose your shirts online from our collection. Our collection will have designs for every occasion, from classic work shirts to a casual weekend look.
Step 2: Enter your custom sizing. We’ve worked hard to make this incredibly easy. Our simple fit process uses numbers you probably already know like your sleeve length and jacket size, so you can order a custom shirt in seconds without taking any measurements. Or for a more detailed fit, we’ll walk you through an easy 9-step process to take your measurements. You just need a measuring tape and a friend, and it takes less than 5 minutes. We'll even send you a measuring tape for free to get you started.
For those who order shirts from us through Kickstarter, we’ll reach out to you after the campaign and direct you to our online measurement process. If you're giving shirts to others as gifts, the gift recipient can go through the measurement process himself.
Step 3: Sit back and relax. In about two weeks your custom-made shirts will arrive at your door. Be prepared to get a lot of attention!
Our goal is to delight every customer with a 100% perfect fit guarantee. If you are not completely satisfied with how your shirt fits, let us know and we’ll straighten it out right away.
Awesome. How can I be a part of it?
By joining us on Kickstarter, you’ll be helping us launch our first full collection of custom-fit shirts. As a thank you to our early supporters, we’re offering special two-tier pricing on a selection of shirts we've designed as part of our first collection. We also have a number of other great rewards, including a full made-to-measure suit from our Creative Director, Peyman Umay.
To support us, click "Back This Project" at the top of this page, or select one of the pledge levels to the right.
Once we reach our goal of $20K, we can buy all the fabrics we need to launch our first collection.
If we raise $40K, we will also be able to expand our collection. Based on feedback from you, our supporters, we’ll design more great shirts to choose from.
I'm in. What shirts are you making?
Here are a few of the shirts from our first collection that we’re offering on Kickstarter. For a complete list of the shirts, check out the Kickstarter page on our website: www.beylerandturk.com/ks-shirts.
Tell me again how amazing these shirts are.
BEYLER & TÜRK mixes all the right ingredients for the perfect shirt: the world’s finest fabrics, superior construction, and vibrant designs with a classic touch.
We source all of our fabrics from the finest Turkish mills. Aegean cotton from Turkey is among the most prized in the world, and for good reason. Its unique fiber structure produces incredibly soft and dense textiles with a natural sheen. It’s a dirty little secret in the industry that most cotton fabrics have been treated chemically to give a look and feel that approaches Turkish cotton. At the end of the day, a shirt is only as good as the materials that go into it. We want our shirts to be the finest clothes in your closet. You’re going to feel the difference!
We build shirts to last. Elements like sewn interlinings, single needle construction and tri-fold plackets ensure a sturdy structure with a smooth elegant look. We always use a high stitch count (at least 18 stitches per inch) for strength and durability. Most brands cut corners and hope the customer won't notice. We focus on polishing every corner to a bright shine.
A BEYLER & TÜRK shirt has the finish and attention to detail of shirts that cost twice the price. Cuff, collar and placket trims, different cuff notches, contrasting gussets and stitches enriched by Peyman's signature details... we do everything we can to make each shirt a masterpiece. For us, details aren’t a way to make a shirt look flashy or garish. They’re a way to express quality, sophistication and style.
Do you really know what you're doing?
The founding team blends experience in fashion, technology, finance and entrepreneurship – the core skills we need to make BEYLER & TÜRK as successful as we envision it. We’re bound together by a shared passion for quality, craftsmanship, and the finer things in life. This venture is a labor of love, and every shirt we make is a source of pride.
Peyman Umay, Creative Director
Peyman is a fashion designer with extensive experience creating bespoke menswear for an exclusive clientele. He has an obsession for detail. His design philosophy, “Elegance is hidden in the details,” dictates his choice of the finest quality fabrics, unique tailoring elements and distinctive design details. You will see the trims, notches and stitching choices and say, “That is a Peyman Umay shirt. I need one.” He co-founded BEYLER & TÜRK to give every man the opportunity to own one of his shirts.
He grew up in Mersin, Turkey and received his fashion education in Milan, Italy. After designing collections for high-end brands in Europe including Damat and Beymen, he moved to New York in 2007 to work for Beau Brummel. In 2010, Peyman launched his own brand, PEYMAN UMAY BESPOKE, catering to distinguished gentlemen by appointment only. You can spot his clothes on some of the best-known celebrities at premieres and other red carpet events.
Dan Norcross, CEO
Dan is a lazy shopper. He used to buy most of his clothes at the same retailers, buying well-made but boring shirts just because he was comfortable with their sizing. He knew there must be others like him who wanted more style without more effort. He helped found BEYLER & TÜRK to save his fellow man from fashion tedium .
Dan received his bachelor’s degree at Williams College, and he has a master’s degree from Harvard and an MBA from NYU Stern. His professional life has centered around the startup scene in New York over the past 9 years. He knows what it takes to launch a technology-based company.
Richard Zyne, COO
Richard is a picky shopper who likes to look good. Willing to put in the time, he launched an exhaustive search for the perfect men’s shirt. Sampling tailoring shops, online custom shirtmakers, and luxury retailers, he’s bought dozens of shirts. The shirts from Peyman Umay were the only ones that impressed him for design, quality and fit. He co-founded BEYLER & TÜRK because he believes so much in the product.
Richard has an extensive background in finance. Working as an investment banker with several large institutions, Richard specialized in Mergers & Acquisitions. He’s going to make sure we run a tight ship so we can deliver the maximum value to customers.

Risks and challenges
Our biggest challenge is making the shirts to our high quality standards. We’ve been making sample shirts for several months, ironing out the kinks in our production process and refining our shirt designs. Still, our Kickstarter campaign is the first time we’ll be manufacturing in production quantities. Our standard delivery policy is to ship shirts to customers in 2 weeks. We're expecting to make a lot of shirts as Kickstarter rewards, so we've planned for additional delivery time. This will allow us to carefully check each shirt for quality and finish, and make any adjustments as necessary.
The other important risk is fit. We’ve worked hard to tweak our measurement approach so it is simple and accurate. If you’re not completely delighted with how your shirt fits, we’ll alter it for you or remake it. If you’ve selected a shirt bundle as a reward, we’ll first ship one shirt to make sure the fit is perfect before sending the rest of the shirts about two weeks later.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
