My lizard is gNd .KQfC Lv b.Ken@!#?@!
This is sort of the mirror inverse of my update from a few days ago. Instead of fixing some broken music, I decided to see what happens if I break the music of Lizard.
What I did was disable the code that loops each music track once it reaches the end. This way, it continues playing whatever data happens to be there. On the NES, there is no system protection against reading memory from the wrong location. Nothing is out of bounds, so it's free to just keep reading whatever it happens to find in the ROM and interpreting it as music data. I put a little fast-forward at the beginning of each track to quickly skip the normal stuff before the loop point.
What comes out is something that sounds sort of like the original track, but with random pieces of it playing on randomly selected channels, more or less. Here are a few selections from the remix:
Void Zone Remix:
Steam Zone Remix:
River Zone Remix:
Mystery Zone Remix:
If you'd like to hear the complete "remix" soundtrack, or full versions of any of these tracks (they go on for quite a long time before repeating), you can download a Nintendo Sound File of it here:
If you need a player for this kind of file, you can search for an "NSF player", but I recommend the one that I maintain, called NSFPlay:
Thanks for listening! There are 5 lizard days left to help fund this lizard video game!
