Currently there are more than 1.000.000.000.000.000.000 pictures on the internet and it seems completely impossible to keep track of them. Images are stolen and used by others without permission. The process repeats and in the end, no one knows where – or in what context – they will eventually show up.
We want to build a tool that „keeps the eyes open“ for your pictures. Working in the background, it will inform you when a specific picture appears on the Internet. Simply put: Spookfish is a tool to help fight privacy violations and copyright infringements.
We think this can be a very useful application for anyone who publishes images on the Internet. And, it will help those whose personal pictures were used without their knowledge, such as bullying victims or slanderous posts on social networks. Photographers, illustrators, graphic designers, painters, celebrities, actors, agents, musicians, businesses, PR services, attorneys and others can all benefit by utilizing Spookfish.
It will be available in two versions:
A Standard version that can monitor up to five pictures and a Professional version that can handle an unlimited amount of pictures (doing up to one hundred different searches daily).
Both versions will be able for Mac and PC.
If we should receive more than 60,000$ We will also write a standard and a pro version for IOS and Android.
In that case any supporter will be able to choose between a mobile or a desktop version.
Who are we?
My name is Frank Papenbroock. I am the founder of Spookfish and I am based in Hamburg, Germany. More than a year ago I got the idea for this project. I developed a method to let this become reality and teamed up with a group of great people in the US and Germany who want to help me with that.
As an ex-photographer I am used to work with copyrights and as a documentary filmmaker and journalist I was able to do some research that shows that stealing pictures has become a huge problem for millions of people worldwide.
Together with my partner Hannes I successfully run a film production in Hamburg for almost two decades. This will be our next mutual project.
Our US-partner is René Kock in Mendocino. Friend and business partner for almost 20 years. When we told him about Spookfish he immediately wanted to be part of this and we are happy and grateful to have him on board.
We have different T-shirt and polo shirt cuts for men and women. Please let us know, which one you want.
We plan to be ready by summer 2014. As a contributor you will have access to a private blog with the latest news and updates.
Why help us?
We think, it is important to give people more control over their pictures in order to let them decide what happens to them. This hopefully helps preventing bulling or other misuses of images.
Let‘s make the internet a better place, together.
Risks and challenges
We feel very confident that our project will be successful. All people involved are really exited about Spookfish and we cannot wait to see it happen! We are over a year into the planning and have most things worked out. Nevertheless, this is a worldwide start-up-business on the internet, and as with every start-up-business there might be problems and legal issues, especially since third party techniques are involved. We have linked up with some of Germanys best legal advisers for internet issues, Unverzagt von Have and have checked already many legal aspects, but of corse: a small rest risk will always remain. On the other hand we strongly believe in this idea and we think that Spookfish has the potential to become a huge success. In order to achieve that, we need your help.
