Shot in the style of a cable docu-series, Pawn of the Dead is a horror/comedy webseries following the exploits of Austin Crowley and the staff at NecronomiPawn, a pawn shop specializing in magical, satanic, and occult paraphernalia. Each episode satirizes popular tropes and conventions of the horror genre as Austin and his team bargain with demonic buyers and sellers, attempting to eek out a living without surrendering their souls to the Dark Lord of the Underworld.
The world of Pawn of the Dead is filled with supernatural posers and phantasmagoric wannabes, but it also includes the genuine article. So, as the staff conducts their business they're acutely aware that real, life-threatening paranormal danger can erupt if a deal goes south. The action unfolds documentary style, with the characters directly addressing the camera to enhance the story telling.
If Pawn Stars met The Evil Dead, had a baby, killed that baby, resurrected the baby in the blood of a virgin cheerleader, and then fed it to the Sarlacc, the result would be Pawn of the Dead.
The Pawn of the Dead team love shows like The Office and Parks & Rec. They poke fun at a genre while still managing to be something entirely their own. What we haven't seen in a docu-drama, mockumentary type show is a spoof on the object based reality genre - shows like Pawn Stars, Hardcore Pawn, American Pickers, and Oddities. We feel that these shows deserve their own shining moment of pure mockery. So, we bring you Pawn of the Dead.
Pawn of the Dead came out of a creative brainstorming session for narrative, scripted content for a national horror network. With all of the ideas that were thrown out, everyone around our office kept talking about Pawn of the Dead. It was different and offbeat with lovable, familiar characters.
We loved the idea of this show so much we decided to make it happen, but shooting a full length sitcom is expensive and just didn't make sense in today's hyper-connected world. We wanted the show to live on the web where the denizens of the horror/comedy/reality/mockumentary audience live. (There are at least tens of them out there.)
Great question! Episode two provides the epic conclusion of the first story arc of Pawn of the Dead.... and you can watch it INSTANTLY! Over to the right, you'll see a list of rewards. Every reward level from our $10 DISTURBING PACKAGE on up gives you instant access to episode two AND all of our future updates. This includes behind the scenes videos, special bonus content, and graphic artwork.
RUSS JOHNSON is the brilliant mind behind Pawn of the Dead and the writer of the first two episodes. He also has a slight obsession with exotic dancing and Satan.
IAN LOOMER is the Director of Pawn of the Dead and actually made a pact with the Dark Lord of the Underworld to create this show.
AMY LOU ABERNETHY is the Executive Producer and the key driving force behind Pawn of the Dead. She also has a killer recipe for faux raw flesh.
RUSSELL BLAIR is the Cinematographer for Pawn of the Dead and uses a series of enchanted/cursed cameras to capture all of the footage. Best not touch his equipment.
EMILY PASTORE is our Art Director and effects makeup specialist. Fun fact: only 7 people died to get the stiletto in the eye effect correct.

We want to finish out a 6 episode season. With two episodes already completed, we're ready to take on the last four episodes. Our team is in place. All we need is for you to help us reach our goal.
All funding will go directly to support the final production of season one and to help compensate the incredibly talented cast and crew. The most expensive part of our entire shoot will be paying everyone to come and work on our set. For productions like these we, typically pay $100 a day across the board. This means that for a standard 12 hour work day our crew will be working for roughly minimum wage, typically on the weekend or in their spare time. To put this in perspective, a Cinematographer in the real world could make 10 times that.
So take $100 a day and multiply that by around 20 people over 12 or so shoot days and you can see how fast it adds up.
The rest of the funds will go towards food, costumes, props and lots and lots of fake blood.
Kickstarter is a crowdsource funding project. That means that instead of trying to find one complete funding source, we rely on generous supporters from around the world to donate to this project. (All for some awesome rewards!)
It works like this:
1. You check out our videos, watch episode 1, read our story and decide we are so incredibly awesome you want to donate (also you probably want to see episode two).
2. You find a reward over to the right that you like. Might we suggest the BLOODY AWESOME PACKAGE, which includes a special edition DVD and bonus content, a Pawn of the Dead T-shirt, a high def digital download of season one AND your name immortalized on the Pawn of the Dead website.
3. You purchase a reward. The way kickstarter works is unique in that zero dollars are pulled from your account until we reach our goal. That means, should we meet our goal, the money you spent will be pulled out of your account and we will contact you about your reward. Should we not meet our goal, no money will be pulled out of your account. Zip. Zero. Nada.
It's the best of both worlds. If we succeed, you have peace of mind knowing that you funded a fun project (and have a sexy new t-shirt to show for it). If we fail, then all you have to contend with is our sad tears of rejection.
The absolute best way you can help is by purchasing a reward and helping fund Pawn of the Dead. One dollar or one thousand, every little bit helps.
The next way you can help is by sharing this project and our video with your friends and family. Share it on Facebook and Twitter. Email it, post it, like it, pin it, digg it, up vote it, touch it, smack it. Whatever you want to do to tell your friends about Pawn of the Dead.
