Recorded Live Streams:
sorry for the kickstarter live issues early on in each recording. The real games come soon enough.
No two games are ever alike,
as players take up the roles of stereotypical high school teenagers trapped in a creepy and dangerous "abandoned" insane asylum.
Knockout your friends, tie them up, rob them, leave them to die just to save your own skin, or you can just kill them yourself, the choice is ultimately yours! There are many things you CAN do, but very little you MUST do. With a non-cumbersome rule system, every player can play however they see fit, within a few guidelines.
Players build the asylum as they explore,
attempt to complete their own personal objective, battle monsters, organ harvesters, crazed hobos, even each other in the hopes to succeed in their quest before succumbing to the horrors that are hidden within. Tiles are 1.2mm 400g C1S card stock with Linen Finish.
Players are dealt one of 15 stereotypical high school teenagers.
This will be your character for the game and determines what your base stats are, how good you will be in a fight, and how sane you can potentially be. All cards are 300g C2S, poker-size cards with oil-varnish and rounded corners.
Each teen has an matching stand-up character that players use to move and explore.
Made from 1.2mm 400g C1S, linen finished, punch out card stock. these will durably stand up to regular, if not extreme, use.
Players start with a number of sanity cards (based on their teen) which have anywhere between 0 and 3 value each.
This will determine how sane you are, and how easy it will be for you to go insane. Only you know how sane/insane you are, but as you progress, everyone will be able to see how much sanity damage you have taken. All cards are 300g C2S, poker-size cards with oil-varnish and rounded corners.
Once all of the sanity has been drained from your psyche, you will find that your desires have shifted and must act carefully not to arouse suspicion before completing your new, sinister task. All cards are 300g C2S, poker-size cards with oil-varnish and rounded corners.
Players equip numerous items and skills designed to help them accomplish their goals, whatever they may be.

*One With Darkness reward:
This reward will be discussed via Skype with the creator of the game. Backers will be allowed to provide a picture (of themselves or another consenting adult, who must Skype with us) for character creation by one of our artists OR will be able to provide their name for creation. Either way, you will be able to choose a stereotype (pick a few as some may be too offensive).
Risks and challenges
Luckily I have worked extremely hard to complete Asylum of the Doomed prior to launch so the only remaining issues will be to order and ship the product to the backers.
I'd say the biggest challenge, for an independent artists, would be getting the word out that such a great game exists. Every play tester has been counting down the days until launch / when they can afford to back it, but ultimately spreading the word without funding for formal advertisement is difficult.
Secondly, the lack of support from Kickstarter itself for independent artists has been an extremely difficult wall to overcome. With Kickstarter being used more and more by large companies as a platform for pre-sales, these multi-million dollar companies have caused the gaming community to expect nothing short of pure beauty along the lines of artwork, leaving no audience for independent artists who choose to keep their funding local and in the pockets of people who truly need the work. Personally, working so hard to make such a great product has required thousands of hours of work on my part alone; at the base goal I will be working for less than $3 / hour. But, it will be worth it to bring such a wonderful game to others and provide them with countless hours of fun!
Once the campaign is successful I all of the products for the backers will be ordered, printed and shipped out to their new homes, your homes.
A printed sample will have been produced prior to launch so that everything can be quality checked prior to production. Additional copies of the game will be printed in case of manufacturing errors and can be replaced at no cost to the backer.
Although this is my first kickstarter campaign, it is only the first of many. Asylum of the Doomed will have at least 1 expansion and at least 2 other games will be produced in the near future.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
