Lore #2: the Swifts (+ Avatars and a sneak peek)
It's been a few days. Fret not, this update is packed with stuff.
Today we'll be going over House Swift, and then I have a sneak peek image from the awesome coloring book. First, though, I've got some goodies for you!
That's right! Here are a few sweet badges to show off as your KS profile pic. Enjoy!
Now, let's get to...
The Stoats of House Swift are notorious for being the most numerous of the noble houses. It is said they are somehow able to pull strings throughout the realm. It is also said that anyone in the realm can trace their own lineage to a Stoat. The implications are curious.
What does this mean in the game?
Members of House Swift are able to convert guild points into influence, at any time.
This is a powerful ability. With a little practice, they may not have to Maneuver after the first couple of rounds. Swifts are known for some of the biggest plays in the game.
Aiden Swift was abandoned as a child. Son of the former head of House Swift (and brother to Natalie Swift), his disappearance was widely remarked as fortunate.
Aiden is crafty. Even as a forsaken child, he was able to join Melissa Swift's household. Though Melissa may not know it, Aiden later masterminded the poisoning of his own family.
He now spends his days throwing extravagant parties for the court, gaining the confidence of those who once scorned him.
Melissa Swift was born to a minor branch of the vast Swift family. Decisiveness has always served her well.
After a mass poisoning killed many high Swifts and many of the rest squabbled, she rose to power. Since then, she has earned the respect of her peers, and few still question her position. Her web of influence is formidable enough to keep silent those that do.
Scarlett Swift is Melissa's younger sister.
Where Melissa is decisive, Scarlett is aggressive. She knows what she wants, and will do whatever it takes to get it.
She does not always get along with her sister, but people have learned to keep their opinions of Melissa quiet in her presence. She challenged the last man to publicly disparage Melissa to a duel. The man's eldest son also died from a sword wound that day.
Tomas Swift was once consort to the Queen. Fathered by an unknown Joyce, he was raised in his mother's house. He was destined for common priesthood, but his own ambitions were much greater.
He endeared himself to the court, though a powerless minor noble, and swept an entire generation of ladies away from their lord-husbands. When the rumors of his mischief caught up to him, he was soon presumed dead.
Sometime after taking power, Melissa discovered a letter sealed by her half-brother's personal signet.
Jonathan Daniels was born in the servant's quarters of the Swift household. He is, in many ways, a quietly resilient man. Raised by propriety and hard work, he became a shining example of loyal service, despite a childhood filled with mucked-out stables.
His predilection for estate affairs was eventually discovered, and he was apprenticed to the aging steward. He was essential to ushering in stability when the Swift regime changed.
Now he stands rigid, ever watchful for the next shift in power dynamics.
Natalie Swift seems to be incredibly kind, and is thus well-loved by many. That has helped her build a large support network in the kingdom.
It just so happens, she is the surviving heir to the old leadership of the house. She had no desire to lead when her family was murdered, so she stepped down and took a favored position in Melissa's house.
Now she uses her network of supporters from private, while still the golden child in public.
Speaking of Natalie Swift, here she is in coloring book glory!
Anyway, I hope your week has treated you well. I look forward to our next update.
As always, keep spreading the word about the game!
