History

On December 26, 2013, the New York Festival Orchestra (NYFO) made a sensational debut at the Carnegie Hall-Stern Auditorium. The performance of the monumental Beethoven's Ninth Symphony, where Maestro Hideaki Hirai conducted entirely from memory, was enthusiastically received with a standing ovation by nearly 3,000 music lovers, who packed the most famous concert hall in the U.S.

It also receivedrave reviews from critics; which naturally led us to start this organization. We believe that music is the world's best cultural ambassador which can make human lives ever better.

2014-2015 Season Opening
In 2015, after a year-long careful planning, the New York Festival Orchestra is returning to its enthusiastic fans for its inauguration season. The inaugural concert has been planned to take place at the Merkin Concert Hall at the Kaufman Music Center on Thursday, March 5, 2015. The program, titled "Mostly Beethoven Festival" will feature

  • Piano Concerto No. 5 in E-flat major, "Emperor" (featuring Ivan Donchev, a young virtuoso pianist and a pupil of Aldo Ciccolini),
  • Symphony No. 7 in A major by Beethoven
  • Overture, "The Marriage of Figaro" by Mozart
  • "Misteri" (Mysteries) for Piano and Chamber Orchestra by Francesco Marino <U. S. premiere>

Please support NYFO to make a difference!

Any concert of this kind requires a budget to cover all the expenses including venue rental for the concert day, rehearsals, compensations for musicians/staffs, publicity, printings of posters/concert programs, box office, music scores, and other incidentals.

We have so far successfully secured generous private and corporate donations to rent a venue to plan our inaugural concert of 2015 season. However, we are seeking to find the remaining portion of a minimum of $15,000 via generous contributions from Kickstarter backers like you, ticket sales and advertisements in the program booklet to cover the fund needed.

Since we cannot rely on ticket sales or advertisement to secure enough fund in advance to organize a concert, your generous support will be so important to us to make it a successful concert.

The biggest challenge to the Orchestra at this time is to successfully host this upcoming concert (March 5, 2015), on which a firm foundation can be made in various aspects. It will help us secure future financial funding, longer term commitment from musicians and other personnel, solid fan base, and opportunities in the area we look forward to exploring.

Mission Statement

NYFO will explore our future activities from 3 perspectives as below:

 1. New York Festival Orchestra shall share, respect and celebrate "the spirits of the great composers" as if it were a "Festival" to dedicate our sincere and passionate performances of their masterworks.

 2. New York Festival Orchestra shall plan to have Educational and Outreach Programs as well as regular subscription concerts and tours to share the goodwill among many countries in the world.

The Orchestra will build up our efforts and commitment to follow such wonderful tradition of Forte 90 by visiting New York City area schools to promote classical music among the future generation.

At the schools, we could host lectures, demonstrations and games, and activities to stimulate excitement for Classical music, and introduce students with some musical background to playing with other musicians in small ensembles.

  3. Since many great composers have been often influenced by other genres of arts, NYFO intends to collaborate with various arts such as painting, photography, literature, ceramics and fashion through exhibitions in the lobby or article series in the program booklet along with our performances. We hope that the audience can share the feelings of a "Total Artistic Experience" with us and enjoy our concert even more deeply.

Let us kickstart together to begin our exciting musical journey!

In order to kickstart this brand new organization, with ambitious but carefully thought out plans, we cordially invite you to be a part of our founding effort.

We are very much looking forward to every bit of your monetary support, and encouragement by visiting and sharing with your friends our
Official Website: www.NYFO.org and

We look forward to meeting you at our concerts in this special inaugural season!

New York Festival Orchestra (NYFO) is a project of the not-for-profit organization, FORTE 90, INC. as described in Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. Forte 90’s tax identification number is 11-3530041. All donations benefit NYFO and are tax-deductible as allowed by law.

Risks and challenges

Your generous support to fulfill our funding goal is absolutely essential in order to make our exciting "Mostly Beethoven Festival" happen with a group of dedicated, talented musicians.

Although we have secured to rent a venue and musicians to present our inaugural concert, we still need additional funding for all the musical and publicity expenses such as music purchase, travel and accommodation cost for a soloist and conductor, renting rehearsal spaces, printing flyers/posters/program booklets/tickets, mailings, publicity cost to enhance ticket sales which will also be a crucial financial resource to realize our concert.

If we fail to reach our funding goal, we must reduce the size of the orchestra drastically down to perform a completely different repertoire such as Baroque pieces, which will leave many musicians off stage. In order to avoid such situation, we will do our best to present the ideal program with all the musicians of the NYFO who are very much looking forward to performing together a wonderful masterpiece program for you.
