About

*Products in video are used for demonstration purposes only, we will make, source and design each product that goes inside the boxes.

What's The Problem?!

It simply doesn’t make sense for plastic bottles, bags, straws or coffee cups to be used for only 5 minutes – after which, they stick around in our environment for hundreds of years wreaking havoc on the ecosystems. Our earth, the oceans and the animals just can’t stomach any more plastic, and neither can we!

We believe that the media overloads us with too many overwhelming statistics about the state of our planet and so we created two simple visuals to help you comprehend the issue with plastics:

Ideally we need governments to introduce schemes that work to stop the production of single-use plastics all together, but for now people power is really needed. Gaining big support behind projects like ours will show the government that the public mean business RE tackling these issues head on. We want your help to turn the tide on plastic pollution.

What's Our Solution?

We want to create a plastic-free toolkit for busy people; funded by the people, created by us. Boxes kitting you out with everything you need to go plastic-free whilst on-the-go. Our aim is to create the first 150 of these boxes. We want to prove the publics demand by Kickstarting these boxes, create the first 150 boxes impeccably, and get moving with making these mainstream. We want to make a statement about societies commitment to cutting their use of plastics and create something beautiful, innovative and harmless.

We want the consumer to know exactly where every item has been made, who it's being made by and create a box filled with ethical products that fit our modern aesthetic. This is a box that we hope to bring with it large-scale change.

Our product "BackToBasics: a plastic-free toolkit for busy people" will equip you with everything you need to cut single-use plastics out of your life & end your relationship with these planet wrecking nasties forever!

Our message is simple, its a box of basic items, designed and created by us that we will show you how to use, so you can live guilt-free on the go. We will be specifically sourcing, designing and manufacturing each of the products for a plastic-free "on-the-go" lifestyle.

We want to put the power back in to your hands with this box and create something that means lasting change is being implemented at ground level for the planet we live on.

So Whats Our Story?

We met at University, and in early 2017 started our Instagram page @storiesbehindthings as we were both going through a time in our lives where we felt disconnected from the items we had in our lives and detached from a like-minded community.

Our aim was to create a space where we could combine our love for sustainable living, fashion and community so out of this our baby was born!

Since then we've been on a whirlwind adventure, with our little passion project growing into a community of 15,000 eco-warriors. We held 3 of Londons biggest clothes switching events, spoke on panels alongside incredible human beings and featured in huge publications. Now we are ready to bring what we do online, into the real world and make some tangible change for generations to come.

"Stories Behind Things is a fast growing community both online & offline, championing innovative and sustainable ways of consuming. Co-Founder’s are well-known blogger, musician and activist, Ella Grace Denton and fashion guru Jemma Finch. Together they host a plethora of community events, workshops and talks, work to highlight sustainable brands and make change in industry. The girls truly bridge the gap between the forces at work in government and industry around sustainable issues and the youth. Making sustainability fun, sexy and accessible.” -Wool & The Gang

If We Raise The Money:

How We Will Be Spending The Money:

  • Personally designing, creating and manufacturing products that fit the aesthetic and ethos of our brand
  • Product designing, sourcing and printing to the highest sustainable standard
  • Employing a finance director for the project
  • Creating a series of "How To Use" videos for each product in the box alongside videos on "The Story Behind" each product in the box - we are passionate about education.
  • A storage Unit from which we can hand-pack boxes
  • Electric eco friendly distribution of the boxes
  • It will allow us to leave our 9-5 jobs for 3 months to focus solely on creating and delivering these boxes
  • PR & media resources

If We Exceed Our Goal:

  • It will enable us to get these boxes in front of the big dogs in industry and persuade them to invest in cutting plastic use and promoting this movement!
  • We will have the funds to tour universities, schools and companies doing talks and workshops about the importance of cutting out single-use plastics and empowering people from the ground up
  •  We will be able to employ someone to help us! This would help us massively, as we have both been working full-time as graphic designers, product designers, finance directors, CEOS, PR people, models, influencers, brand directors, for our brand, all whilst working jobs in retail and hospitality.

Risks and challenges

- Costs will be high to start with. The ethical production line is fairly untrodden route therefore for the time being it is always more costly, not to mention the fact that we are only creating 150 boxes to kickstart this. We are willing to be the ones to take a hit on these costs before ‘being ethical’ becomes more mainstream in terms of producing products.

- This is our first business venture where we are creating a commercial product. We have a big dream and we will do everything we can to get these first boxes funded, created and put in front of the right people so we can expand our reach. We have factored in 3 months for this process as we are aware that some things may take navigating RE: time, money, design & outside expertise.
