My daughter has two hobbies: jumping horses & making videos. Using Google Glass will let her share the experience from her perspective.
Just over a year and a half ago, my daughter was given the opportunity to ride a horse and fell in love in an instant. With a lot of help from family and friends we found her a trainer to teach her and a horse to lease. Since then there has not been a week where she hasn't ridden, and now she's training to jump horses competitively. Along the way, I've documented each step in photo and video; lessons, jumps and falls. That's when I learned about my daughter's second interest...
Soon after I started filling up my hard drive, she began using that source material to produce videos of her own. Since then she's made over 40 videos, some short, some long, some silly, some sad, but every one of them is about her love of riding. The first time I saw one I teared up. These were talents that needed to be encouraged and nurtured. With the right training and the right equipment, she can take both of these loves to the next level, and the next step she wants to take is to document her experience from the saddle.
That's where you come in; you and Project Glass...
Last month, Google began a competition to apply to be a Glass Explorer. The entry procedure was simple: post a message in Google+ explaining why you wanted Glass along with the hashtag #ifihadglass. Google Glass was the perfect opportunity for us. The technology would not only let her record video from the rider's perspective, but to also share it live, with anyone. Knowing there would be little chance of getting in, I posted anyway... Imagine my surprise when I received one of the only 8000 responses from Project Glass: I was invited.
The catch? The invitation is for the opportunity to purchase Glass; a $1500 opportunity.
This is where we need your assistance. We lost the horse we were originally leasing and have recently started leasing Scarlett; a young mare with little experience, but a lot of spirit. We want to take this opportunity to document the training process and track the progress that these two new friends (horse and rider) make as they learn to trust one another in the competition arena. Your contribution can make that happen and will give you the chance to share in the adventure.
If successful, this mini-documentary video will be published on YouTube and shared with everyone. By making a contribution of $25 or more, you will also be credited in the video. Contribute $100 or more, and you will be listed as a co-producer.
We're not looking to fund a huge endeavor, we're looking to purchase Glass. Even a little of your generosity will go a long way.

Risks and challenges Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
Really, there is little risk here. We will either make our goal or not. If we don't get Glass, then we will find another way to document this experience. Yes, there are always devices like GoPro cameras to capture the rider's perspective, but they are still clunky to mount and don't provide the opportunity of transmitting live video. The biggest challenge here is just to be able to afford to take advantage of the Project Glass opportunity we've been given.
