There's a big problem with how our culture talks about pregnancy loss and infertility-- we don't. When a couple loses a pregnancy, they frequently feel guilty or ashamed to tell their friends and family. During a struggle to conceive, they're too often left feeling isolated and embarrassed.
It's time to change how we talk about loss and infertility. It's time to start telling our stories.
This film is about education and sharing experiences, so that we can start to build a culture where losing a pregnancy isn't treated like a secret. We encourage and empower all men and women who have dealt with miscarriage, stillbirth or infertility to start sharing their experiences in their communities, so that we can start to take away the stigma.
ABOUT THE DOCUMENTARY
Whether you know it or not, you likely know someone affected by pregnancy loss or infertility. This film will introduce you to the lives of couples struggling with these issues, and tell their stories of survival.
But how did we get here? How did we grow to be a culture that makes a woman feel ashamed about something that's not her fault? What are some of the influences that subtly pressure a couple to keep their feelings to themselves when they're going through these extraordinarily trying times?
We believe that the only way to get away from this culture of silence is to thoroughly explore why it's here in the first place, and take away the taboo.
What's unique about this project is that we're choosing the stories we're going to film from submissions through our website and social media channels. We want you to add your voice to the project and let other men and women know they're not alone. We'll be selecting stories from these submissions and traveling to film them for the documentary.
We've got several stories confirmed already, but we're looking for more!
Here's something else that's unique about this film-- When we're in a major city to shoot interviews with specialists or families, we're going to hold public filming events where we invite anyone to come out and have their story filmed for the website.
Did you have a loss forty years ago and want to remember your baby? Are you having trouble getting pregnant now, and want to share your frustration? Whatever your story, you'll be able to come down and sit for a short filming session and have your story shared on our site as part of the project.
The more voices we add, the more we take away the stigma and the shame.
We already have several prominent doctors, scholars and specialists committed to this project so that we can take a comprehensive look at the culture of silence we've created. This documentary will look at how miscarriage, stillbirth and infertility happen, who they happen to and what the most cutting-edge methods are for treatment.
Scholars will walk us through the intricacies of how our society treats loss in relation to the woman as a mother, and how men are pressured to be strong in the face of adversity. Therapists will talk about the value of opening up and sharing your experiences, and how it can lead to emotional healing.
Here are some of the amazing doctors and specialists who have committed to the project already.
We've already had an amazing response to this project, and have collected dozens and dozens of stories on our website. With the rise of social media and internet support groups, the tides are starting to change in favor of not keeping these things a secret. This is the revolution that we hope to capture and encourage with this film.
This documentary is independent and a huge undertaking, and will be made possible entirely through pledges like yours, grants and sponsorships. Each trip to film interviews will cost several thousand dollars.
This campaign is designed to raise enough funds to get us started shooting, with the goal that we'll raise more money to continue shooting once we get out there.
The more money we raise, the bigger this documentary can be and the more voices we'll be able to add to the project.
We want to give you an idea of what your contribution will mean to this film.
- $10 buys one of our crew members a meal on the road.
- $50 buys a memory card to capture these stories.
- $150 gives us a roof over our heads for one night while we're out shooting.
- $1,000 buys our lifelong friendship and three flights.
THE PRODUCTION PLAN
Once we raise enough money to get started, production will begin this summer and last through the Fall. Post production will be Winter and Spring 2016 and the film will be available for online viewing in Summer 2016.
This film will be available online so that it can reach the widest audience possible. Our goal is to raise awareness, so we want it to be easily available at any time to anyone who wants to learn more about pregnancy loss and infertility.
Risques et défis
Since this campaign is designed to get us started, there's always the risk that we won't raise enough funds to cover our entire budget. That said, we're indie and we're resourceful, and we will find a way to get this film made. This documentary will be amazing with professional color correction, a fancy soundtrack and original score and slick animation, but if it comes right down to it, hey, we know how to edit. We have big dreams for making this film the best it can possibly be, but if push comes to shove, we have the skills to make it bare bones and still maintain our vision and message.En savoir plus sur la notion de responsabilité sur Kickstarter
