Our mission is simple but comes from the heart. Small Batch Beer Co. is a place where people will congregate and experience handcrafted beers and cocktails with one another. But besides the libations, it's a place that will be a cornerstone to the continued revitalization of 5th Street in downtown Winston-Salem. We are committed to providing quality beer and handcrafted cocktails.
At Small Batch Beer Co., we challenge ourselves to come up with innovative, new recipes that will not only allow for a unique experience for our customers, but that will also provide an ever-changing menu to attract those outside of Winston-Salem. We are passionate for what we do and with that passion we show responsiveness and compassion in serving our customers and the city of Winston-Salem. Small Batch Beer Co. takes tremendous pride in helping other small and local businesses and farmers through partnerships and collaborations. Our goal is to be an establishment that the city can point to as a beacon of a small business success and help lead the revitalization of 5th Street so it can return to its illustrious past. We acknowledge that our industry is constantly changing. At Small Batch Beer Co., we encourage change and in fact demand it from all our projects. This willingness provides for a quality product and an unmatched attention to detail.
Quality, Not Quantity
Beyond what's stated above, we believe in the following: It's not about having 50 beers on tap. It's not about having a wine list as thick as a phone book. It's not about having a catalog of neon cocktails with flirty names. It's about quality, not quantity. Small Batch Beer Co. is an establishment that invites you in with southern charm for a totally different drinking experience. Whether it's our unique beers brewed one barrel at a time right next door, wines carefully chosen to tell a different story in every stemmed glass or custom cocktails painstakingly handcrafted with the utmost creativity, it's about quality, not quantity. Whether it's our double IPA's made with seven different types of hops, hand-selected wines from the distant, faraway hills of Catalonia or spirits infused with rhubarb picked from the local farmers market, it's about quality, not quantity. At Small Batch Beer Co., superiority comes from simplicity. So relax, sit back and please do stay for a while. Because we all seem to have one thing in common: the thirst for quality. We welcome you to Small Batch Beer Co.
Winston-Salem has a unique culture and history. From early Moravian settlement to tobacco headquarters of the U.S. to financial and biotech hub, the city has always evolved when needed. Now rightly, labeled the "City of Arts and Innovation," Winston-Salem has proven that it is capable of leading the way into the 21st century.
Small Batch Beer Co will add to this motto by giving the city something it doesn't have as well as help in the revitalization of downtown.
Small Batch's location in the Kopper Kitchen Building puts it on the very edge of the Downtown Arts District and at the heart of the restaurants, shops and bars of 4th Street. Within walking distance of both areas, Small Batch Beer Co. will link the two areas to create a whole downtown.
Add to this the increased foot traffic expected with the eventual completion of Mast General Store and the renovation of Coe-Plaza, and Small Batch will play an integral part in leading to a 5th Street that is completely revitalized.
Community and How Your Contribution Directly Helps
We are the little guy. We dream big and expect big results but we are a nanobrewery and bar that specializes in small-batch beer and cocktails. Although we have much respect for larger micros, we prefer to keep it small, in-house and local. We believe our size allows our beers and drinks to shine through and you, the customer, will taste the difference. Our beer and drink selections allow us to get out into the community to collaborate and explore what the Piedmont Triad has to offer. Whether it's going to the farmers market on Tuesday's and Saturday's to find the ingredients for our Hibiscus Lemon Sorrel Wheat or collaborating with the local coffee roaster for our Mocha Cappuccino Stout, our main ingredient is our love for this city and the surrounding area.
The Kopper Kitchen Building has played an interesting and important role in the history of Winston-Salem. Yes, it was a diner that served down-home food, but it was also a place that welcomed everyone that walked through its doors and treated them as if they were eating at home. For decades it was a place to gather with old friends and to make new ones. The iconic round sign on the top of the building is a notable landmark downtown and will be kept there for other generations to enjoy and talk about.
Cleaning and Kegging
In addition to the incentives listed for backers in the $100 - $5000 categories we would like to announce a special VIP Kickstarter party. That's right, you get all the goodies in the incentives box and a chance to come to Small Batch for a special "backers" night. It's our way of thanking you for your generosity and support!
Risks and challenges
Any time a small business is brought to life, there are risks and challenges. We believe our project will not just provide a new establishment for someone to come and have a good time downtown but will also help revitalize an entire section of Winston-Salem. We are moving into a nostalgic building that comes with a lot of history but also a lot of work. Small Batch Beer Co. is not being funded by wealthy investors. It's being funded by the very passionate three of us (Tim, Cliff and Ryan) and hopefully, by you. We are doing everything from building the bar you'll be placing your drinks on to hanging up the light fixtures so you can see your fellow patrons. The above video shows exactly what we are all about and conveys our passion and drive.
Of course we realize that we will encounter obstacles even after our funding goal has been reached. The money donated will go directly for materials to build the actual bar, light fixtures and any remaining brewing equipment that may be needed. Until the money is raised certain things will have to be put on the back burner so that we can continue with the build-out which is a painstaking task unto itself.
We are patient fellas and want our vision to be properly addressed. Everyday is a new challenge, whether it's brewing in Tim's basement as we wait on the money to finish our space or search for reclaimed wood to line our walls, it's never a dull moment. Small Batch Beer Co will not cut corners and compromise our mission just to have an "open" sign on our door. We believe in having a superior product for our customers because they deserve quality.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
