Hello, my name is Jon Owens. I am the husband of the lyrical assassin Kelley Owens and the father of 4 boys (one who has yet to be born) and a beautiful daughter, Aria Joy. I am a worship leader, songwriter, and creative designer, cartoonist, and self-proclaimed foodie originally from Indianapolis, IN (GO PACERS!!!), but currently based out of Jacksonville, FL.
Since I was a wee lad I've loved music and particularly church music. With both of my parents being involved in music and creative arts ministry I always viewed the performing arts as an extraordinary avenue for discovering God and His attributes. In fact, some of my earliest memories are of me sitting on the steps of our little apartment as a 3 year old and talking to God in song.
Little did I know then the impact those moments on the steps would have in shaping my destiny.
For the last 14yrs I’ve had the joy of leading worship and designing worship experiences in various church settings, college campuses, and large conferences and events.
In 2006 I recorded my first worship record titled "Arize Live" (gotta love the "gen x" misspell...womp womp). It was a fun record and an amazing time to record the songs of some of my dear friends as well as some originals. The first track "Bless The Lord (Son of Man)" was eventually picked up by gospel recording artist Tye Tribbett. Bless the Lord...OH MY SOUL!!!
We experienced so much support with that record and still to this day have people telling us how they listen to it often. Since that release I've had people constantly ask me, "when is your next record gonna come out"?
With your help, the answer is now!!!
So much has happened in my world since that first project, but none more impactful than the birth and passing of our daughter Aria Joy. In September of 2011 our daughter who was 6 months at the time passed away due to SIDS. This was by far the most heartbreaking and world changing experience of our lives. The night of her passing I found myself on the steps of my porch, with my wife and my guitar, crying out to God and lifting up songs of praise. Though the circumstances were much different, the same loving God who met me as a 3 year old singing songs to him on a porch, met me as a 31 year old worshiping through heartache.
It was in that place that God taught us more than we could have imagined about his goodness, his faithfulness, eternity, and the beauty of redemption.
It was these lessons that inspired this all original 2 EP project.
"And now my head shall be lifted up above my enemies all around me, and I will offer in his tent sacrifices with shouts of joy; I will sing and make melody to the Lord." (Psalm 27:6 ESV)
The first EP is titled “The Rise”. It is about celebrating the resurrection of Christ and the redeemed life we can experience NOW and for eternity. "The Rise" will include the long awaited release of our song "We Cry Holy" as well as "Glory Rising" which features the rap stylings of my amazing wife Kelley 'aka' my #KentuckyQueen! This EP will be epic!!!
The target release for "The Rise" EP is March 2014 (right before Easter...BAMM).
The second EP is titled “The Fall”. It is about trusting and praising God through the most trying of times. This EP is particularly dear to our hearts as we have first hand experience of how praise and worship can serve as a life raft and a light house in the most terrifying of storms. This will feature the first song my wife and I wrote together after our daughter's passing, “Hold Me Still”.
The target release for "The Fall" EP is August 2014 (right before...you guessed it..the Fall).
Both EP’s will primarily be live recordings, featuring a blend of rock, soul, spoken word, and modern hymns crafted to remind people that in “The Rise” and “The Fall” our response to God is praise.
Both EP's will be release as digital download only. However, in November we will release a deluxe physical cd that will include BOTH EP's plus bonus tracks.
This project, in many ways, is the culmination of a 2 year journey of trust and transformation. So many of you have supported us all along the way. It is that support that has encouraged us to start this Kickstarter campaign to do something amazing together.
Please support this project! I've posted some fun and worthwhile rewards (you'll be the judge) from original downloadable artwork to living room concerts and much more in between.
Please join us and share on Facebook and twitter to see “The Rise” and “The Fall” in 2014.
Risks and challenges
Having been in music my whole life and doing it professionally for 14 years, I am fully prepared to make this record. That being said, there are many facets to creating a record and for that reason I assembled a fantastic team to make this vision a reality.
The biggest risk you face backing this project is not getting your rewards as early as you'd like. With the 2 EP's being released at two different times and the combo cd being released later it may take some time before some of the rewards are completely fulfilled because of release schedule. Some of the rewards like the lyric art and the "Lyric/Art/Life" notebooks require a lot of time and love from me, so please be patient while I put them together! Everything we're doing here is to put together an excellent project and great rewards for your amazing support; it may take a little longer than I'd like.
Other than that, there's always the crazy outside possibility as an artist that my ability to perform is compromised by vocal injury, etc. If that happens, things will be delayed but we'll make the needed timeline adjustments and get you the goods.
If you choose the package that requires travel from me to you, the inherent risk is the same as there ever is with travel. But if weather or something else prohibits travel on the dates we agree to, we promise to work with you to reschedule.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
